I had a HiLux while I was deployed to Afghanistan. That damn thing was a TANK! The AC worked like a beast and kept me and my K9 cool...

Proud owner of a 2010 Hilux. They are literally unkillable, but as slow as a turtle on wheels ... Greetings from Argentina.

Some facts: the same generation of Hilux Surfs had another Diesel Engine option called "1KZ-TE" which are 3.0litre 4 cylinder engines and they are way better at speed, torque, noise and even reliability.

This car is legendary. It lasts forever even if all you do is change engine oil and change tyres only. Sometimes I wish the rovers were as reliable.

Such a cool truck, i wouldn't care that it's slow. Not meant for speed lol.

Toyota Hilux is the biggest selling vehicle in New Zealand, they are iconic here. We love our diesels in New Zealand and Australia for their reliability, low end torque and affordability (gas prices here are up to 3 times higher than in the US). These are reliable work horses that keep running forever, are easy to work on and cheap to fix because parts are everywhere. Top Gear couldn't even kill one. There's a saying in Australia, if you want to go in to the Outback, take a Land Rover. If you want to make it home again, take a Toyota.

In my country of Guatemala people love those Hilux Toyota pickup trucks since those are durable

I live in Australia and I own a 2011 Hilux SR5 4WD with a 5-speed standard transmission & 3.0L Diesel engine. It has pretty descent acceleration and is pretty much an indestructable "ute" (utility vehicle- that's what we call our pickup trucks here). I've driven around half the country with it across rocks, floods, red deserts, sandy beaches and all types of terrains, moved houses with it, taken my kids to school with it and after 10 years it still drives like a dream. I always tell my wife I'd be buried in my Hilux and she thinks it's the best way to go. Pretty much sums up how good these vehicles are.

I own a 1994 4Runner with the 3.0 manual nick named the 3.slow. Has 273k miles and is still running strong, ac blows cold. Love that beast!

I love how you're so optimistic about most vehicles like these. And all I love your enthusiasm.

The Hilux Ute is the most sold car in Australia.

You forgot one of it's best attributes: the solid front axle. That's another reason it has never been sold here, the front axle can take a beating, but most Americans don't need it, they'd rather have something that drives on the pavement better.

Did anyone else catch Scotty's Celica giving the Hilux the evil eye.
