8:08 I remember the days when we were told that using presets is cheating and that we should create our own patches. I'm glad there's less people who think like that these days.

What a great little summary! Fantastic video.

I do remember around 2003-10 ish ish though there were a lot of good a free plugins out there. Earlier notable ones were the Kjaerhus VSTs (anyone remember those?) and the Variety of Sound ones - still going now in fact! Had a few myself, along with the UAD (first FIRST edition) PCI cards, with one Mackie card also which came with the 1176 and LA2As. Incredible then.

Weaning myself off Waves plugins now, they'll try that nonsense again in a heartbeat. Only things I use regularly are the CR8 and the Grand Rhapsody and hey, I could easy do without.

Of course no studio is complete without Delay Lama I am VERY surprised you left that off.

Did a degree recently and had to study a lot of what is in your video. Great video.

Wish you would’ve showcased the early 00’s plug ins a little more like U-he, psp audioware, NI fm7, pro-53. Camel phat, crystal. So many cool synths and plugins from back in the day.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I started in 2002 with the first m-box. I still use a couple from that era like waves rvox and some audio damage stuff. Good times.

Reason but also Rebirth were really important though, this broke the way for digital sound generation instead of only processing.

Excellent stuff. Love the nostalgia. Look how far we’ve come. Time flies.

Very interesting man. Music production has come a long way in just 50 years and we still have room to grow.

Good video, I’ve been making electronic music since 1993 and remember plug ins first starting on pentium 1 windows 95

Really decent vid mate! Maybe do a one on Audio Units as well? E Magic making Logic and then being bought out by Apple and being proprietary to the OSX platform....

People hate on Waves, but they've been doing it longer than anybody else really. Watched companies come and go in their lifetime and they're still making arguably some of the best plugins in history.

CMI was Herbie Hancocks instrument of choice....

I'm sure you had to leave out a lot of stuff otherwise it'd be a 2-hour video, but man you skipped over some important milestones (imho of course). Like all the software synths before the VST format, like Rebirth or the first Reaktor.

loops are still cheating and if that's your main source of inspiration you are not a real musician. you're a sound editor
