Domestic sheep breeds have been BRED to only live a short life as they are never kept beyond that age- not financially viable. But you knew that....right?? It is far more important to breed food animals that mature quickly than it is to breed them to live what we would think is a "normal" lifespan.

Maybe if the scientists who produced the calf in India had then left her in the care of a farmer, she'd not have died of a lung infection. The Sioux City Gaur the same. The surrogate mother could have been vaccinated against dysentry ( commonly known as calf scour ) before the calf was due to be born. And re Dolly, how many sheep ever make it to 7 years ? She did have offspring though - what happened to them ?
