The US Navy's aim is to dominate China all the way up to Kinman.
Americans have confirmed they "have a commitment to defend Taiwan". So the Chinese Navy is a concern to the US Navy.

As you said, China does not build navy to rule the world but to defend their coast waters and immediate area. Regarding extensive experience US navy have in last few decades, I agree, they experience fighting countries without air defense, air forces, armed vehicles and are dressed in bed sheets armed with AKs.

Why bother trying to compete with US globally if you can’t get past the island chain? From what I can tell, China has their priorities straight with focusing specifically on the here and now in their own region.

The US Navy currently had 11 active aircraft carrier groups and an additional four in reserve. That does not include the smaller aircraft carriers which we have another 20+.
