RESTORE, re-read, and defend our Constitution, as written.

The constitution is fine the way it is. the politicians of the branches of government must obey the rule of law. changing the Constitutions is illegal and all laws made outside the powers delegated is unconstitutional acts, and has no authority.

If we make deals just to appease people we got it wrong

I agree the Constitution we already have is more adequate. Problem is is that they're not following it instead of the government should should be implemented for sure. Sovereign people ain't the government they reside in their states.

It’s laughable that anyone today would even consider this question. Someone needs to tell these people that they’re not smart enough to improve anything. Especially the constitution of the US.

I am also very frustrated with this guy. He does not understand the relationship between symptom and root cause. Everything he talked about was a symptom. The root cause is that Americans expect Congress to take actions that they should not. They don't understand where legislation should be originating. The only laws Congress should be making are those necessary to ensure our rights are protected, keeping things consistent among the many states, and ensuring the overall thriving of the Union. Anything besides that, should be at the state level. If he wants to cure his symptoms, he should be petitioning state governments.

Congress is like the Fire Department. We pay them to a job that we hope they never have to do. The less they do, the better things are going. And yes it is difficult for things to progress at that level, which is by design. When they do things, they have an impact felt far and wide, and those things should not be so easy to do.

AND FOR GOD'S SAKE.... GIVING THE PRESIDENT MORE POWER IS NOT THE ANSWER. The answer is to stop asking Congress to do things they have no business doing. Stop allowing the Supreme Court decisions to be seen as sweeping legislation, and tell the president that his job is to sign constitutional laws, vito unconstitutional proposals, and feel with foreign leaders.

RESTORE THE CONSTITUTION!

...and what the Progressive notably omitted from the mix: not one utterance of the word corporation, nor of it's overwhelming dominance of political incentives shaping governance.

Back off any move to modify the original rights of our Constitution. "Thems fighting words"...
Thank you for exposing political corruption.

an ineffective government is the ideal kind, our government is ineffective and slow by design. it is just one aspect that helps restrain a government from causing a total disaster for the people. Also it's only ineffective as the things it was never meant to be involved with, and you would only call it so if you expect a government to provide as a welfare state all kinds of services and such. Well our government was never even designed to collect taxes outside of fees for the few services it offered really, let alone being the massive hindering parasite to the productive capacity of of people everywhere on earth either directly or indirectly that it is today. It has expanded its power through economic controls that has allowed the government to bypass constitutional constraints and grow to effect nearly everything by regulation, restriction, fine, permitting, or fee, while getting the ability to pick and choose winners and losers in the economy for all the money it spends given to those in government who pick the contracts to spend on out of the private sector for everything the government needs or does.

I do not claim to be a political scholar, but have always graded high in reading and verbal comprehension. And i think the Stanford gentleman forgot what the discussion was about. He spoke eloquently and comprehensively about the lack of professional integrity of congress. But failed to provide a modicum reason for making changes to our constitution.

Effective government? Effective at what? Making yet more laws or restrictions? I prefer freedom of the people to come up with solutions

How about honor the Constitution? Every American military person who has ever died in battle died to defend the Constitution. By honoring the Constitution you honor their sacrifice.

I was thinking the governors would elect the president and they could fire him if they thought he was doing a bad job. The system would depend on the invisible hand of the market place to solve economic problems. The government could not try to solve economic, social, or moral problems.
