Regarding jazz chords I’ve always heard that the difference between a rock guitarist and a jazz guitarist is that the rock guitarist plays three chords for a million people and a jazz guitarist plays a million chords for three people.

Ibanez guitars are great! Been playing them since the late 80's, they have always been my go to guitar. I would have been a little nervous playing in front of Nita too, she rocks!

I’m late to this party, but I just had to add my .02 worth...I picked up one of these beauties two weeks ago...by accident. I was looking into the S-Series Ibanez for comfort, but I knew that they are basically a shredding machine — something I don’t do. I was looking for something light weight, balanced with no neck dive and something that had an easy-on-the-fingers neck/fretboard. I play jazz and classic rock/blues, so I figured there would be no way this guitar would fit those genera but I wanted to give it a run anyway. It blew my mind! It is THE most comfortable, most playable guitar I have ever laid hands on in my hundreds of years of playing! I absolutely HAD TO HAVE IT! At Guitar Center I played thru a Deluxe Reverb reissue because that is one amp that I have. Once I got the guitar home I played it thru — get ready for this — my Fishman Loudbox Mini Charge! At low to medium volumes I get the sweetest jazz and classic rock sounds imaginable! Clean tone Heaven! I do like solid state amps for jazz, but because I couldn’t wait to set up my big amps, I just plugged into the Fishman, and I was astounded by how creamy the neck pup could be with the tone knob turned down slightly. I haven’t to this day even tried it with my Fender Custom Shop ‘64 Deluxe Reverb hand-wired reissue or my Fender Twin. Cranking up the volume produces fantastic classic rock tones. And yes, it gets great surf sounds. I’m not entirely sure about the quasi-Floyd Rose setup as I’ve never had a guitar with one, but I suppose I can learn how to deal with it. I guess I’ll HAVE to because I can’t find an S Series with a standard whammy bar and bone nut. I am anxious to get my hands on Nita’s latest model — the JIVA X — which is an Ibanez Prestige offering that was introduced at NAMM 2020. I think I just might have to get one of those.

Bottom line...you can’t judge this book by its cover! It is not just a one-trick-pony shredding machine. You can make it sing whatever style music you want — except maybe the country Tele kind of stuff. This is a VERY versatile guitar which is pulling me away from some of my very expensive collection. Dammit!! 😆

I just had this vision of a Surf themed super strat.

CBS era headstock, block inlays, binding, 22+ frets, V shape with amber tint.

Bolt it up to a double bound Surf green RG style body with a thin shot of nitro, tons of horizontal checking, an aged nickel floyd rose, coil split super low output PAF in the neck/bridge with a claw style Jag pickup in the middle.

I wanted a Jiva for a couple years but couldnt get one because of demand. Ended up with another brand but I will tell you that S body they did for her was an awesome guitar! The new S series is a work of art and they are only around 1200.00 USD. Thats a great price for an Ibanez with exotic woods. The pickups they do really do give you the best of both strat and gibson sounds.
