Crack the Code and Open the Lock | This will Eat your Brain

We need to open the lock here using 5 conditions that are given. Lock has 3 digit pin which is difficult to crack.
Can you try and open the lock?

c) Thus, by (a), the correct digit in 682 is the "2" in units position, and then the unique possibility is 0X2 (the 0 can´t be in the tenths position, by (b)).

d) In 614 one digit is wrong placed. It can´t be the "1", so it is the "4".

How I did it:

738 - no correct digits;

780 - reveals 0 as the right digit in the wrong place, so it's either 0_ _ or _0_;

682 - discards 8, leaving 6_ _ and _ _2 as possible right digits in the right place;

614 - from the previous 6 _ _ and _ _2 options, we discard 6_ _ as a possibility and conclude that _ _ 2 was the right one in the right place before, therefore 6 is the right number in the wrong place now. So, the answer is 062.

However, if the statements claimed that ONLY one or two digits in each hint given were to be the right or the wrong ones, the answer would have to be 042. No statement claimed that only one or only two were to be right out wrong. That means the information given was never limited to what it claimed.

The hint on 206 never said that ONLY two digits were right in the wrong place, or that two of them were right AND the other one was wrong. It simply gave you a limited piece of information. In other words, it didn't give you all the information, therefore you can conclude more than what's given.

Asked chat GPT to solve this, it failed the first time, but the second, with clearer explanation, it solved it pretty easily

It’s 062 there it’s a riddle. Not math. People treating it like math is part of the riddle. There is no rules to the clues really saying they can’t bend them to help the riddle. If they said all 3 are right but in the wrong places you would get the answer 062 straight away just as easy as you get 042. So it states only 2 out of the 3 are right which isn’t a lie they don’t have to tell you all 3 are right.

This problem seems not specific enough to me to allow only one answer:

042 could have been the only correct answer possible, but for this, it would take the 682's, 614's, and 206's descriptions to start with the word "only" (for exemple).

The fact that one number is told as correct, does not necessary imply that the other ones are not correct.
Same for the numbers 5 and 9, nothing indicates they are not parts of the digit key.

So without further specification, this problem does not seem formulated well enough to me, because it allows the following answers: 012, 022, 042, 052, 062, et 092.

My biggest annoyance with all these logic quizzes is they are never concise. It says one number is correct and well placed.. it didn't say ONLY one number is BOTH correct and well placed, and my brain instantly goes to that possibility, screwing up what everyone else seems to just accept.

I dont understand the logic that 6 is eliminated first just because it would have to be the first number for the lock. In the second statement why isn't it possible for 6 to be the following number in the sequence as well? There are no rules that say there can't be repeating numbers.

682 - the 2 is in the correct place
614- the 6 is in the wrong place but it is correct
206- here it doesn't say that the third number is wrong orand if they do then i completely agree with the video however the that step never said that the third number was wrong
738- obviously wrong
780- the 0 is placed at the wrong side
Therefore, the answer should be 602 and like i said if the question specified more and said that the third number in step 3 is incorrect then the answer would be 042. Alright baiii

You guys are changing the meaning of the sentences. Without tweaking the sentences: 3, 6, 7, 8 are incorrect and can prove that. Only 0, 1, 2 and 4 are correct. 7 possible combinations: 042, 442, 022, 422, 122, 121 and 021. I can prove how these are correct and how others are incorrect.
042 is the best answer among these 7 combinations but other 6 combinations are valid answers. 😎😎

I got 062 answer...the second row, 614 says one number is correct..then why the 6 is removed here...? Why not 4?
