Black "burns in" because oled burn in is caused by the leds wearing out. If all the other LEDs are active, the black will stick out because it's brighter than everything else. Aka, it's not the black burning in, it's the rest of the screen burning out.

not mentioned in the short is that this test was done with max brightness, keeping your oled displays dimmer will greatly prolong their life before showing signs of burn in

Just checked my oled phone screen i been using for 4 years and never checked and my my whole notification bar battery percentage and the home button from instagram and youtube burned into my screen lmao. This what makes me a little uneasy about oled tech. Like imagine getting burn in on an oled tv after 4 years. I have a lcd dumb tv and crt they still work great. Better battery life would be great but if im still using the steam deck after 10 years or the oled switch becomes retro in 20 years would there be screens degrading like shit and would the lcd counter parts look better at that point

1500 hours isn’t THAT long but it is VERY long to be on just a few screenshots at the same brightness with no real cool down time between. Your OLED test videos have given me a more optimistic outlook on OLED screens and was part of what convinced my to buy a Switch OLED. Steam Deck OLED is on my wishlist next but first I have an RGXX35 H from Anbernic coming this weekend that I want to set up for mostly on the go GBA emulation. For the low price of the Anbernic I dont mind just throwing it in my pants pocket or a bag. With the Switch it is just too large to pocket it and a bit too expensive and precious to break or lose it as an all day on the go handheld. Switch games and Steam Deck games also just take too long to load, battery life is too low, and they are much more cumbersome than having what is roughly the size of a Gameboy Micro to carry around for 65 bucks. Im hyped to bring my games over to the emu device and going to be keeping my original copies in storage all wrapped and sealed in great condition.

I wish there was an OLED mod for the original Steam Deck. I don’t really mind the awful battery life or how hot it gets but that LCD is ugly

I mean, it's not the better option if you still want to be using it 10 years from now.

Why are you pronouncing OLED like that?

How much money does this guy have that he's able to burn-in a $550 device for testing purposes?

These “tests” are such bull 🐂 you would never use it like that in real life and with varied content will have no problem. I’ve still game on my old lg oled b7 (about 8 years now) for thousands of hours and not one problem. It’s outlived two Samsung lcd tvs in that time that we bought 😂 . Enjoy your steam deck and play whatever because by the time you notice anything the steam deck 3 will probably be out.
