Restaurant Delivers Food & Drinks By Model Train!

This restaurant looks like my kind of place! They deliver food and drinks from their kitchen to your table via G-scale model trains.

I was watching model train videos on YouTube one day and the thought popped in to my head to search and see if there were any YouTube videos of bars or restaurants that use model trains to deliver food and drinks. It turns out there are!

While there certainly are restaurants in the United States that use a similar concept, I decided to share this particular video with you because the restaurant used what's known as a "Creative Commons" license when they posted this to their YouTube channel. This means it's legal for me to use their video on my channel without any concerns of copyright violations.

I decided to keep this video very short and simple... just so you could see these very cool model trains at work at the Vytopna restaurant on Wenceslas Square in Prague, the capital city of the Czech republic.

No way. You have no idea how long I have thought of this concept. Ever since I was a little kid I always thought of how cool it would be to have a restaurant deliver food either just on a conveyor belt or some type of train. I always thought it would be impossible, but I still have always thought about it. Holy crap. I just can't believe someone actually did it. Literally, my whole life, I've dreamed of this. And it's done it pretty much the exact way I thought about it, with one long track spanning across multiple tables, and having switch tracks to deliver to the one table. I just always thought it would be terribly inefficient, but that looks like a solid layout. It never occured to me to have stair and catwalks over the track, which is why I always thought it was impossible. That settles it. If I ever open a restaurant, and gosh I hope someday I do, it will be just like this. One of my childhood dreams fully realized.

I remember my dad taking me to a place like this in a Chicago suburb circa 1954. It was not as large, just a diner really, and the trains were O-gauge Lionel. There was just a big loop of track that came out of the kitchen, went around all three sides of a big U shaped dining counter, and disappeared back into the kitchen. Having your burger delivered by train on a flat car was a big thrill for an 8 year old train lover.

When I was a kid in the early 60s, there was a hamburger place just north of Baltimore that had an O gauge train that brought your food from the kitchen around the counter and stopped in front of you. I thought it was like magic even though we had trains at home. It was called "Hamburger Junction". Thanks for bringing back those memories.

I've seen something like this happen before on TV, a restaurant delivering it's meals by model trains, but it impresses me even more, seeing it actually happening in real life! That is pretty awesome.

We (my boyfriend and I) spent the Christmas 2018 in Prague. And did we go to this restaurant? Oh yes, we did! It was really funny to watch the trains serving the food and drinks. The menu contained mainly burgers and fries. The food was freshly made, and tasted good.
So, basically: If you ever go to Prague, visit this restaurant - it’s great fun!
