Troubleshooting a wonky Boston Acoustics TVee26 sound bar

The capacitors were probably a red herring.

This unit was in excellent condition when I picked it out of the trash. I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was a DOA that someone had replaced on warranty.

(Spoilers) Considering that, I was probably incorrect in following the capacitors as the primary cause of failure. One 100 µF capacitor did indeed measure poorly, but that could just be confirmation bias on my part, being used to dealing with higher quality capacitors. Another theory would be that that capacitor was indeed faulty, and caused the failure of the touch board.

But the most honest hypothesis is probably that the touch board failed on its own, perhaps out of a bad chip or ESD.

Somewhat amusingly, I actually managed to source a new front panel board for it just days after finishing the repair. It's yet to be installed, but I'm all but certain that it's going to turn the 90 % fix into a 100 % fix.

5:59 The brand is JWCO, another one with a website (I've seen them fairly often too). Could always be worse, it could be a Chongx VEHT (ironically, a lot of the caps that say that don't even have a vent).

So the way these units work is that it will quickly turn off without an audio input? I push the ON button on mine and in 5 seconds it turns off. Is that normal?

It's trash. I can't afford a new one. The programming is bad enough but it just stopped working. I'm done with it.
