I don't know how this is shocking to anybody, imagine if magnus made all this drama and just said "yeah i think he's legit" lmfaooo

Delayed broadcasts is such an easy security measure to implement. Coming from poker, I was really surprised that it isn't the case in the majority of chess tournaments

Yes Levy, I did make it until that part. And you have no idea how refreshing it is to see someone so objectively aware of their own bias, while still making every effort to analyze situations objectively. You, sir, are amazing at what you do.

That note on the way that someone who has cheated before will affect your performance is huge. For any sport whether it's track, cycling, boxing or chess, a massive part of each of them is the mental game that determines their performance in a specific scenario.

I think Levy is the only content creator I’ve seen that’s candidly said how drama is beneficial for his channel and views. Everyone knows it but it’s nice to hear it from someone

Love how real you were at the end of the video, Gotham. I feel the same way with how all of this is going down. And if you are reading this, maybe watch the whole video. It got real.

I had wondered if it wasn't something like this. Perhaps Magnus isn't sure that Hans cheated otb, but he does know he's cheated frequently online, and 1) objects to him being invited to a prestigious tournament in the first place, and 2) hates playing against known cheaters because it is distracting constantly wondering if they're doing something sketchy. You can see the 2nd part very clearly in Hans's matches against others after the Magnus game - he does something weird and instead of stopping for a moment and figuring out how to punish it, these high ranking players end up taking the bait. At such a high level of mental game it really doesn't take much to throw you off.

You probably won't see this, but there is a really similar analogue in professional starcraft in Korea. There had been a number of high profile cheating scandals over time, and increased security can never catch up with the cheats, so they ended up being forced to move to a 1 strike system. If you get caught cheating, you are banned for life from most events.

I've been very impressed with how even-handed and well thought out your videos about this have been.

Levy your channel grew because of your ability an an entertainer but people stay because of how genuine you are. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd watch your content even if you branched away from chess.
It's bizzare how over the course of 2 years, you've become my favourite person on youtube.

Thank you for taking a stand here. The sad part is even if he's guilty this was not a proper process and it can't be right that we only punish cheaters when they start beating Magnus with black. We need a transparent and robust process and not rely on Magnus' intuition.

Really appreciate the honesty, Levy, especially at the end. Recognizing and owning your own bias is huge, and I don't blame you or judge you for having it. I appreciate your willingness to explore these questions before you have these answers. Doesn't sound like anyone has these answers yet, but it took balls to start asking them. Keep doing what you're doing man. Yeah, you had me nailed to a T -- Dad taught me chess as a kid, didn't really pick it back up until 2020 -- but I'm glad I've found you since then and I plan on sticking around. You're a cool dude, dude, and I can tell you're doing your best. I for one appreciate it.

I remember when you were feeling burnt out about a year ago. It has been awesome to watch you overcome that. Chess became a huge hobby of mine all 100% because of you. All this drama has been completely unexpected and it's important to remember that you are human. You have been putting in incredible work to for so long now. Your mental health has to come first. You have built a successful career as a Content Creator and you don't owe it to anyone to be grinding endlessly. Theres a Russian proverb that comes to mind. I hope you are finding your time enjoyable, taking the breaks you need, and doing the things you wish to do.

I really appreciate the human moment he had at the end. The honesty and thoughtfulness really struck home.

For me is strange when people say " Hans cheated when he was 12 and 16, he was very young". But now he is 19, so the last time he did it was just three years ago.

I think the reason chess is different than other sports with cheating is for the reason you said in the video. It is so hard to find proof of cheating that if you cheat once and get caught it doesn't mean you will get caught again if you cheat again. This is why the perception of those who cheat is so warped in one direction. Rightly or wrongly.

I think that the reason we don't one-strike-ban people in other professional sports is because we run tests. In MMA, it's a 'trust-but-verify' situation (blood and urine tests), but in chess, it's largly just based on trust.
In a competition predicated on trust of honest play, breaking that trust should be enough for a one-strike-ban. If we don't want one-strike-bans, then there needs to be a method of verifying that competitors are not cheating.
