No, the problem I have with Kynes is that this character was More than just the planet ecologist. The character was Chani's Father in the book.

Both Chani and Paul Lost their Fathers in this war was something they shared between themselves.

That's now gone. :(

We need the full cut. Gurney reciting poetry wouldn't have been so random for people who hasn't read the books if we had seen him playing an instrument beforehand, plus it gives more depth to a character which otherwise seems a bit cliché.

It does matter that he’s a man. He’s a secret leader of the fremen who are a distinctly patriarchal society.

in the books, Feyd doesn't have any page time until the 2nd act (aside of a mention twice and 1 scene), so this new version of the movie does exactly what it should and leaves him out. sensationalising this as a "omission" is silly and disingenuous..

in the book Kynes is a Fremen leader and the Fremen are a patriarchal tribal society. The only reason it ended up not mattering in the film is because they cut all the important Kynes scenes and ignored that Chani is Kynes daughter. And no, Frank Herbert was not promoting patriarchy. Gender roles are extremely important to the themes of Dune. But they had to cut all that to appease reactionary groupthink feminists who are too stupid to realize when a work of art agrees with them. Depiction = approval fallacy. Like the feminists who protested American Psycho because they thought it was misogynistic, entirely missing the criticism of misogyny right in front of their faces. It blows my mind that they thought they needed more female representation. The Bene Geseret are certified badasses and they secretly control both the elites AND the peasants. And I haven't even mentioned the Fish Speakers yet. If they were so concerned about female representation, why did they ruin Jessica by making her an emotional wreck?

It's weird how the movie is 2 1/2 hours long but still manages to show less than the '84 movie up to the same point in the story 🤷

Have you read the novel? Or did you watch the original movie?

I actually really liked the casting choice for Kynes. I was unsure until i saw the movie but she did a great job. And Feyd really didn’t play a big role in the book until later so it was no surprise that he wasn’t featured in this part.

You can see Gurney's Baliset in Dune part 1. I would like to see Paul play a love song on a Baliset to Chani in part 2.

I'snt the spice harvested during the day in the book? Chani says at the start of the movie that they harvest it during the night...

Loved it. I'll be waiting for part 2.

No - it doesn't make sense that some scenes ended up on the cutting floor because my only real complain about this movie is that it's something like 6 hours too short :D :D

Emm, steal what show?, I don't even remember her scenes.

Some forced inclusion and diversity, but they didn't woke it up too badly. About the best we can hope for these days.
Why not? Stick to the cannon that's why. Tokenism is just that.

it's 'Chaani' not Cheni.

Changing Leit Kynes' gender inherently forces the movie to change the character of Liet Kynes himself and the role he plays in the story. For people who read the books, it was just an unnecessary and forced decision that ultimately only detracted from the film.

What is so annoying is if they had cut all the stupid slow-mo scenes, they could have fit have these missing scenes in

Characters screen times and development were cut so you people could watch over and over Zendaya walking in the sand in her see through dress or she staring into the cam with her grumpy face. What a joke this Dune is.
