The most dangerous part of spaceflight is leaving Earth — the launch.
The second most dangerous part is when a spacecraft has to decelerate and survive the fiery heat of re-entry while returning to Earth.
Objects coming back from space are traveling at many times Mach speed — faster than the speed of sound — and as they do they're compressing the air in front of them. As a result, all could be burned up as fireballs.
But when asked about his descent from outer space, veteran astronaut Scott Horowitz said “it's very smooth, and there's no real sudden onset or force or Gs that you feel.
You'll notice, looking out the window, the sky starts to turn a different color. It turns kind of a light pinkish color and then it gets kind of a deeper pinkish red, and then it turns red and orange.

The system may not be the most glamorous feature in a spaceplane, but it is one of the backbones of every mission and can lead to the difference between a safe re-entry and total catastrophe.

To be clear, aero-thermal heating is not "friction with the atmosphere." The air in front of the spacecraft is compressed to the point that it becomes a hot plasma, and the spacecraft is heated by radiation. Like holding your hand up to a heat lamp.

One has to hand it to them. To be able to develop dream chaser with minimal funding and support from NASA is truly a huge accomplishment

3:47 No it can't carry the same crew size as the shuttle. The Dream Chaser carries 5, the shuttle carried 7. 4:41 You say the tiles are white while you show a photo of the top of dream chaser, they are black on the bottom side and the white top is most likely a different type of material. Did you guys even research this or did you just read what someone else wrote?

This is a comment about the TPS of SpaceX..sorry.
I was thinking....could spaceX spray on some kind of foam blanket that hardens in air and is waterproof . This will prevent the tiles from cracking and falling off on launch.
On reentry the foam layer will be sacrificial and be consumes by the fireball removing some of heat from the underlying main TPS. Its thickness will be designed so that it will be all be burnt off halfway through the decent thus exposing the main TPS shield which will do its jobs better since it will have less time exposed to the intense heat of the fireball.
The risk of hull penetration should be much reduced.

When the spaceship lands it will undergo TPS inspection and any cracked tiles replaced or tiles that have fallen off will also be replaced.
Then a new foam layer applied and we a ready to launch again.

For Spaceship to work it is not good it being light and powerful and being able to launch 100 tonnes if it does not survive reentry.
So this additional foam layer will add weight but so what if it works. Now what is this foam, well I am sure the industry has some kind of spay on thermal blanket that can meet the requirement.
So the total TPS becomes a hybrid solution.

You'd think by now such technical advances would have occurred so the entire craft could have injection molded panels of some sort that just slipped on in layers over it. The plan being the layers would shed at a calculate rate as they burned off.

I wonder it that could work on top of a SpaceX Falcon 9 Booster? If so imagine a 100% re-usable launch system!

Thx, Good Show ! ! I can't help but wonder why there is a Windshield shaped area on the pointy end of Dream Chaser Tenacity, but No Windshield. If they're going to make this spacecraft Human Rated, I'm guessing they're going to add windows at some point. But if the Window area needs Heat Tiles, how or what material is gonna take the re-entry heat these tiles are used for ?
