I wish I could use a sunscreen with an iron oxide tint for the visible light, but as a male with some white/gray in his beard, it stains the gray! I end up looking like I got a Rudy Giuliani dye job. I imagine a tinted sunscreen works better if you are wearing makeup/foundation over it. Alone, it's far too visually jarring (on pale skin at least). Have to forgo it. Recently picked up Purito's new Go-To Daily Sunscreen, and it is GORGEOUS. The finish is dewy, however, so if that's not what you're going for, I'd look elsewhere. Cosrx makes one that finishes a bit more natural that I also like (aside from the fragrance).

Dr. Stephens, can you make a video on alternative ingredients to iron oxides that protect against visible light? It's very difficult to find the right tint with iron oxides. Sometimes I see claims of visible light protection, where brands use an antioxidant, like lingonberry. Is there enough evidence for these types of ingredients vs. the science behind iron oxide? Is it safe to use sunscreen brands such as Coppertone, Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropic on a daily basis? I don’t see videos recommending these types of sunscreens as opposed to sunscreens such as Versed, La Roche-Posay… I’m new to using retinol and sunscreen and just looking for information.
