It's incredibly embarrassing that it took this long to learn proper breaststroke timing and position, but this is probably the best, most succinct breakdown I've ever seen.

Your explanation is always useful: slow, clear, and precise. There's no need boosting pop music like some others. I improved my swimming a lot after watching your technics. Thank you.

Swam in high school and college. I was never taught how to do the breaststroke properly. Kids are so lucky to have training g videos.

I did it, finally managed to swim proper breastroke after trying for ages. Now it feels like I can go on forever without tiring. What I'd say to anyone trying to learn this is keep going, eventually you'll get it. What made it click for me is realizing it's all about feeling the glide, everything else seemed to fall into place after that.

Thank you for this video. I started swimming regularly again after decades of only very casual times in the water & not regularly at that. Breaststroke is where I'm focusing due to injuries & 2 cervical fusions. I found I couldn't remember any good mechanics on the kick & had no power. I was always a freestyle swimmer when I did compete all those years ago & breaststroke was definitely not a strong style for me back then.

I watched a bunch of videos, but yours is the 1st to really break it down in a view & way that I can visually process. I also appreciate the floor exercises demonstrated to help me work on this.

Excellent! There are a lot of breaststroke videos out there. Yours is far better than any other I've seen!

love this! I was given pointers many many years ago by a world record holder in breaststroke and this is at least as good. On the other hand, I'm old, any much of what is described is well beyond my "breaking point" I'm as flexible as a redwood tree.

Why has no one ever given me good instruction on how to swim properly, even when I was in a club? Society in general does everything wrong that you can do wrong, even outside of swimming in so many aspects of life, which means I can only learn through constant trial and error and watching youtube videos of ever-increasing quality. Like the videos on this channel.

A very grateful endurance athlete.

I exclusively swim bstroke, swan a 5 mile lake recently and kept up with many decent front crawlers. Have another coming up which is 7.5 miles and will be bstroke all the way. Really useful info (as teetering around injury) will be spending a few days resting and stretching and practicing out of the pool/open water. Thank you, great content!

WoW...so good to get such succinct, dense information..and no background noise. Fantastic!

Great instruction and illustrations. Thank you for posting it. Many of us are missing some perfection in our swimming strokes, as good instructors are few and far between. Youtube is so helpful in making up for that. Practice, watch again, practice, watch again, ...

As a beginner swimmer, after watching this video and a bunch of Michael Phelps' video, I was still a bit confused as to the timing. What worked for me is to look at the arm/chest and thigh/leg as two separate motions. You pull, breathe, straighten your arms, then on your way down you start to kick and glide. Then there's a split second when your entire body is entirely straight, then you repeat again. I find that looking at the upper body and lower body as two independent set of events helps a lot.
