Air compressor not working?... Simple Fix!

Compressor making buzzing noise when I turn it on / compressor not getting any power

My Kolbalt 17 gallon compressor stopped working. I sprayed WD40 in the air filter hole and let it sit for a couple of days as you recommended. I plugged the compressor in and it started to work again. Thanks for the tip.

Wow. You’re so smart 😃 I have the exact same compressor and it just stopped turning on. It’s not even that old! It’s probably not the piston problem that yours had, as mine doesn’t make any sound. Frustrating.

I got a kobalt 20 gallon from an auction and it won’t run. I haven’t messed with it too much but the led light on the power switch comes on but that’s it. No humming no nothing. I took the top off and I don’t see anything visually with the wiring but my multimeter broke so I can’t really check it right now till I get a new one. Could it be the the pressure switch? The switch on this is different than others I’ve seen. This one just screws into the top of the tank and has to metal prongs for power in and out. If that’s bad can it cause me to have no life at all? I also tried unhooking The wires from it and running a jumper line to bypass it and it didn’t make a difference. I need to get a new meter so I can check continuity from beginning to end. I guess that would be the first thing to do. Power cord looks fine but I guess it’s always possible that it’s broken inside or something. Who knows. It’s basically a brand new air compressor that someone got delivered and when it wouldn’t start they sent it back and I was the lucky sucker That won it at the auction. What’s the order of steps you would take to trouble shoot it?

Very nice trouble shooting. Did you use anything else but WD-40 to help protect the piston from a future seizing up?

My compressor runs fine but once all air is used, it won’t run automatically until 30-60 min later
