The BEST Shepherds Pie Recipe EVER | SAMSEATS

Shepherds pie is one of those classic dishes that most of us in the UK grew up eating again and again. For many, this was a memorable experience however on the other hand, for a lot of us, the are questionable memories of this dish when served in the school canteen. I am here to change everybody's mind and make it a firm family favourite amongst all of you. No more watery lamb and flavourless lumpy mash! My take on this classic will hopefully have you making this again and again. What's not to love about a rich, spiced, silky lamb ragu, topped in a buttery and smooth mash (which is then topped with cheese and goes beautifully golden and crisp in the oven), served alongside some fresh peas. Nothing beats it in my opinion! Try out this recipe and let me know how it goes... 🔥

Ingredients List Below 👇

Serves 4-6

Mince:
2 tbsp olive oil
1kg lamb mince
2 onions, finely chopped
2 large carrots, finely chopped
2 sticks celery, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
3 sprigs rosemary, finely chopped (1.5 tbsp)
1 bunch of thyme, finely chopped (1.5 tbsp)
Salt & pepper
2 bay leaves
1 heaped tsp ground cumin
1 small cinnamon stick
1 large glass red wine dry
8 dashes Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp tomato paste
1.5 tbsp cornflour
1 litre lamb or beef stock

Mash:
12 potatoes (I used varying sizes here, on average a meidum to large size)
100g unsalted butter
100g double cream
85g milk
3 egg yolks
1/2 tsp mustard
5 gratings nutmeg
