After asking to clear the adaptive transmission system be ready for a dumb look from the salesperson. 😃

If they’re going to put all of this adaptive learning into the ECU the least they could do is give you a way to clear it from the driver’s seat within the telemetry options

My 10R80 on 2018 F150 had hard shifts at 80k, cleared the adaptive strategies with the Ancel hand held you recommend and fixed my issue.

2010 f150 here
My truck has a start up you have to preform every time you disconnect the battery or the trans shift’s real bad. Wife found it in the manual takes 5 mins or so . 357565 miles on this truck to date. Thanks for the content

There is a new TSB 21-2315 dated 27 September 2021 That deals with 2017-2020 F150 with this, Titled "10R80 - Harsh Engagement/Harsh Shift/Delayed Shift With Or Without DTCs". It includes overhauling the main control body in the transmission. Thought this might be of interest.

I did not know that. Thanks for the info Rich. I'm actually looking at a used 2019 F150 for my son.

I remember this going back to some vehicles in the 80's.

Also there is a chance on high miles cars that they will not be able to properly learn due to internal wear and you are risking of messed up transmission. That’s what happened with mine

Great tip. Many of the newer vehicles have this feature.

Similar subject totally different driveline. I got a new 99 f150 5.4 and that thing was stupid fast for a truck. Anyway the thing banged second like it had a shift kit, everyone that rode in it was like damn that thing shifts hard. I got to just before my 36, 000 mile warranty ended and brought it in and when they fixed it there was a long list of what was replaced. Needless to say it didn’t shift like that anymore lol.

I see that alot in fleet vehicles, multiple drivers. Adaptives have to be cleared frequently

My 2014 6R80 would take 20-50 miles to stop shifting harshly after a reset, but it was several hundred miles before my 2021 10R80 stopped shifting weird and randomly banging gears on downshifts. I really prefer Mercedes 722.6 and 722.9 transmissions, they always shift like butter, even directly after an adaption reset.

Was a Benz tech in early 2000s and I’m very familiar with what you’re talking about! You can literally see the adaptive pattern through the DAS system. Pretty cool!

Had my 2020 trans service done(fluid change) and the hard downshifts started about 3 weeks ago. Next service i will ask to have this done and see if it was done after the service. Thanks again

Well Ford's voice had a crappy stock shift strategy for years usually a transmission tune fixes that but I guess it depends on what revision of the 10-speed that is
