A million views. Neat!

A lot of you guys have asked a few questions I thought i'd answer. Feel free to read through but it is a word wall.

1, How the heck did i make it?
The living room of my father's place had a very strong ceiling fan, which could go in reverse. Instead of blowing air down, it would pull the air up. That would create an updraft strong enough to sustain the vortex. Next, I had a box fan and a blanket set up to redirect the air flow so it rotated around the center of the room. You can see it as the dark blue object in the back right. After the fans were turned on, I laid out an old dark red bed sheet with a small PVC pipe underneath it connected to a fog machine. The bed sheet allowed the fog to gently seep through and get pulled into the vortex, as opposed to being blasted out of the pipe. And then it was all a matter of letting the ceiling fan's updraft and the box fan's rotation mix into a 10 ft tall indoor tornado!!

2, can I do this again?
Well, possibly. My father has since moved to a new place which does not have a similar setup. I live with my mother now and our main living room DOES have open space and a reversible ceiling fan, however, it is very old and does not produce a sufficient updraft. It's possible that I can recreate this in my own room, however my ceiling fan does not reverse. I suppose I can replace it with one that does, and if so i can use my laser projectors and lights to make a very cool effect.
Though, I'd have to disable the smoke alarm LOL, don't want that racket. We'll see!

3, can you make mini buildings?
Yes! I did this a lot. My favorite trick was either making a series of card houses or lego houses for the tornado to interact with. It was surprisingly forceful, it would flatten card houses in one go. I had some model trees, the kind you see with railroad models, which I would place and they'd get toppled over too. Another trick I did was that i would make a lego house with a playing card as the "roof". When the tornado passed over, it'd blow the roof right off! Using Monopoly game pieces was fun too, since it made the tornado seam really big.

4, what about lasers?
at the time, I didn't have my collection of laser projectors, but i Did have a set of prisms and a powerful green laser. I managed to make a solid line which looked REALLY COOL with the vortex. It had an eye much like a miniature hurricane.

5, is this dangerous?
No, not really. The vortex does look realistic and behaves much like a rope tornado, take a look at the Ashby, MN tornado or the Ellis County tornado, quite similar structure. However, this vortex can only do so much as to move a few playing cards and toss feathers around. You can certainly feel it if you stick your hand, and you might notice it "tugging" the red sheet a little bit too.
I think the most dangerous part of the whole setup is the fact that the fog leaves a slick residue on the floor after several uses, but that can be cleaned up pretty easily. That, and it can sometimes set smoke alarms off and makes the room hazy for a while.

Imagine if you accidentally left a door open and then it goes outside and becomes a disaster

I have the reversible ceiling fan (it's actually a setting for winter to redistribute the heat that rises) & this looks like fun! I may have to try this myself with my kids. :) Thank you for the complete instructions yay!!

this could be used as scientific research to interpret how tornado's work... very fascinating... if I go by the video, there has to be enough upward wind with enough dust to create a tornado, then we got a tornado... I think that could be the reason plus more factors added along to it with theoretical mathematics, then we have figured out how a typical tornado is formed...

That actually pretty cool! I just saw your other indoor tornadoes. Do you have parties? If so, you could really entertain guests with this.

I would love to see this over an ant pile

So this is kinda taking off, where are you guys coming from?

You have shown me step by step how a tornado forms. Thank you!

Brilliant demonstration! ✨️🌪

⚛️ I love how you can clearly see the various elements of the tornado, like the core, the funnel, and the whirlwind force of the actual tornado, evidenced by the swirling vapors that seem like they're invisibly attached to the funnel.

🌪 This shows the similarity between tornadoes and black holes, the tornado event horizon, which makes them far bigger than the visible funnel.

Experiments like these are why I'm very in favor of the tornados start at ground level theory
Or at least ground level vorticity plays a big part in formation. You basically made a landspout. Super cool

"GOOD LORD What's happening in there!?"
"Uh.. a tornado..."
"Ah... a tornado?! At this time of day, at this time of the year, in this part of the country, localized ENTIRELY within your living room?!"
