I heard someone say the other day that we should just take out the whole “Jesus part” of Christmas. I responded by saying, “you know if you wanted to get rid of every religious aspect of Christmas, you’d have to change the literal name ‘Christmas’. Christmas literally means ‘the Mass of Christ’. To get rid of every religious aspect of Christmas you’d have to change the literal name of Christmas.” He in response said some liberal word salad and got all huffy.

Merry Christmas everyone! God bless! May we all celebrate the majesty of our Lord Jesus Christ’s birth! ❤

We celebrate Christmas because it was an invention of the Catholic Church by Pope Julius I.
December 25 for pagans is very important because they celebrate the Sun god, who also has other names. The Catholic Church adopted this tradition to incorporate that popularity, and call the attention of the pagans to convert to Christianity, bringing pagan traditions to Christianity.

Something to enter college with an elementary religious education… faith is a gift and it definitely shows

I suggest running a simple Google search on the origins of Christmas.

That is not true, Christianity was added to Christmas, but celebration goes all the way back to nimrod, mistletoes, presents, socks on chimney, the songs, the colors, Santa helpers, father time, the Christmas trees, the date, it all has yes a religious meaning, but it is not Christianity.

And for all those whom don't believe
Merry Christmas and happy holidays. It really doesn't hurt to be happy for Christians or Muslims or Jewish people.

The winter solstice has been celebrated for millenia and so the Christians just coopted it so people could still celebrate but for a different reason.

I’m someone who doesn’t celebrate it because of my Christian beliefs. It’s not commanded and it’s not a festival recognised by early church fathers. It has pagan origins from the date to the lights, to the chopping down of a tree and decorating it.
Although I respect many who recognise it for many reasons, I am very glad to be free of its trappings.

Jesus was not born December 25 and Christmas originated as a pagan holiday. Later on christians decided to make it be about the birth of Christ. Nowadays, Christmas is what you make of it. Some people choose to make it about Jesus birth while others make it about Santa Clause or about giving. For some people it is the food, decorations, music, or spending time with family that is meaningful to them. So really none of their answers are incorrect. People choose to celebrate Christmas in various different ways

Christmas is a pagan holiday. There is no mention of Dec 25 being Jesus' date of birth at all in the Bible.

We celebrated Christmas growing up As well as many of our relatives and friends but religion was never brought into it. It wasn't until I was much older Where I found out people go to church and celebrate December 25th as Jesus's birthday even though it's a few months earlier Then when he was born

It's funny how Christmas is during the Winter Solstice and Easter is during the Spring equinox.
