I will say something about the berry section you forgot stego’s. Yes they’re slow, but there more powerful then I trike, are the best at gathering berries in sharp mod, since there so slow they’re super easy too tame since you could just walk backwards while shooting them, and also double as a great early game wood and thatch collector.

For taming maewings I use wooden billboards, just place one right on top of their head when they stop walking then quickly put one behind, that will stop them from getting away even if they walk. After that put another one right in the middle so they can't fly away when you shoot them.

In every single Ark game I’ve always tamed a moschops first! They’re great for early berry (and narcotic) farming and fiber

So glad to see Moschops on the list :D Bit sad you didn't mention the Stego though - sure, they're even slower than a trike, but on top of being good for berries they're also great for wood and thatch before you're ready for a more specialist gatherer and with a few levels into stamina even a midlevel stego can take on anything up to an alpha carno which is great for getting a jump on early levels and some early loot. Plus immunity to microraptors and kapros.

On the argy, not sure if this still works but you used to be able to speed up the taming a bit by dragging a corpse to it before it starts to torpor-run. This triggers it's healing buff, which not only reduces the risk of accidentally killing it but used to (and I assume still does) start draining the argies food as well so it'll be ready to eat faster once it's knocked out.

Also, can't recommend Captain Fatdog's Argy trap enough. Not only is it cheap and easy to use, it's super light compared to the traditional gate trap which makes carting the pieces around on a pteranodon (with their notoriously low weight) while you look for a good argy much simpler.

The maywing also doubles as best egg layer for kibble best tame hands down at the very start. They also gather berries for you as well. Best Dino to tame in early game especially since kibble will pretty much be best way to tame anything else in the later parts of the game.

My favorite 1st tame is the Trike, since it's ability to gather narco berries opens up every other knock out tame. In addition, it has fantastic carry weight and is a good fighter after some leveling up, allowing you to deal with dangerous predators while you build up your dino army. My favorite "First Five", in order of taming are: Trike, Dodicurus, Ptero, Anky, and Argy. The Dodicurus is indispensible if you are going to being building bases in stone. The Pterodon is great for reconaissance, the Anky is great for metal mining, and the Argentivas is as handy as a pickup truck...with wings.

For early game, I would say that getting Raptors wouldn't hurt either. They are pretty easy knock-out tames and you can trap them with a bola provided you can hit them with it before they pin you down. After that, a few tranq arrows can easily bring them down. Their saddled don't require a lot of resources and I think you unlock the Raptor saddle around lvl 19 if I recall.

Raptors make excellent scouts for getting around the land portions of the map if you don't have a good flyer. And it doesn't hurt to tame up a pack of them. They get pack bonuses/buffs if you have a group of them and if you sink points into their speed, health, and melee...a pack of around 5 Raptors can quickly swarm and destroy most small-to-mid sized creatures. You probably don't want to take them up against something like a Rex (unless it's a pretty low level one) but having a small pack of around 3-5 Raptors are great in the early game for getting around quickly with some pretty decent protection if leveled properly.

Moschops is a must have even in late game. They are awesome for gathering rare flowers and mushrooms which you'll need for higher tier kibble - or lure Tapejaras or Quetzals in a trap (with the rare flower aggro-aura you get when you consume them). Their eggs are super useful as well because it's part of the kibble for taming Argents, Mammoths, Beavers, Megatheriums & Megalodons - which you probably want later in the game!

Instead of a Trike I'd always tame a Stego because they're better at everything. They can harvest berries, wood & thatch at higher rates, they prevent you from being dismounted by Purlovias, Microraptors, etc., the have the impale-attack & the 3 different plate-variants which are super helpful. Only downside compared to a Trike is that the saddle is at level 26 and Stegos don't have the rivalry-buff.

BTW: Rexes and Argies aren't beginner tames!

Here's my top 5:

1. Moschops
2. (Tek) Stego
3. Pteranodon
4. Dimorphodon
5. (Tek) Raptor

I use the Maewing for berries as well. Just look down a distance before the bush and hold the 'back up' button and secondary attack. It gets quite a bit even without points put into melee.

Edit: Also, don't forget to put the type of food that the baby requires into the Maewing's inventory ppl.

i've got another tip for the moschops. when you have a moschop and a ichtiornis, you can get lots of prime meat from a single dodo. when you lvl up the moschops, you can give him points in gathering certain stuff. if you put everything in the prime meat talent he will get and expert in prime meat. now when you have your ichtiornis set to send and retrieve you can let it bring you dodo's. when it brings a dodo, the dodo will be glowing. now eat the dodo with the moschops. often you will get prime meat from the eten dodo. the higher the expertise of the moschops the more prime meat it gathers. and incidental you can get up to 30, 40 even 50 prime meat from a singele dodo. it used to also work with prime fish, but not anymore i think thats broken. i hope it helps.

anky's are some of the better berry gatherers as you're upgrading their melee and weight for collecting more and more metal

and since you're upgrading an anky with melee damage, this also means you can collect a lot of berries as well

great early to late game utility dino, although slow it is fairly tough

No love for the Tickle Chicken? It may not technically eat meat, but the Therizinosaur fills the role of berry gatherer and powerful carnivore at the same time. It is nearly as powerful as a Rex (IIRC it has slightly worse DPS, but bigger attack hitboxes), it can often be found in safer areas than most of the large carnivores, and its saddle unlocks a few levels earlier.

Only real downside is that if your attack hits a tree, your Therizinosaur can harvest a crapload of wood and encumber itself mid battle.
