The destruction of the Hosnian system was not a pleasant moment to see (at least when I first saw it) I’ve come across some additional lore that says that because of the massive energy output courtesy of StarKiller Base, a hyperspace rip occurred. That’s why the destruction of the system was seen across the galaxy at the same time. Also, most of the New Republic’s navy was destroyed, with nearly all of the new T-85 X wings being wiped out.
