Awesome diagram. I can't believe other websites wrote paragraphs and paragraphs on the subject.

You Sir are my hero! that makes sense, the best way to differentiate incremental and differential backup is the number of tapes that is used :D

A good way to put it is, differential backups are like incremental backups with short-term memory loss or amnesia since they constantly forget everything that was backup up since the full backup.

Well done. I wish more educational or reference video presentations were this concise.

Helpful. Pity he blurs his speech, mumbles a lot, runs his words together, and speaks some words so quickly it is difficult to know what he is saying!

If you had the same problem, LockOn below summarised an important point:
>>Differential backup updates (from) the original backup, and incremental creates a separate file for each (progressive) change (from the last incremental backup).

It was also pointed out on the video, that online backups handle small backups more easily than big backups, so incremental backups might be better for online backups.

I think i get it:

A differential backup backs up only the files that changed since the last full back up. Focus on the "full back up"

Incremental backups also back up only the changed data, but they only back up the data that has changed since the last Back-up. Focus on the "last back up"

Veritas Netbackup has an differential Incremental backup. Also beware that a NBU archive will delete the files once they have been backed up.
