I live in Montana, I find the right tree, cut it down and mill out the slabs myself. Then I dry them in my kiln. Once dry (to about 7% moisture content) I build either tables or entryway benches with them. I alone from felled tree to finished product am the only one to handle the pieces. Maybe I should start a YouTube channel...

Love that tip about filling from the underside first. Hadn't seen that before but makes sense to save some material. Nice vid, bro

Love the West system been using in boat building for over 30 years. I prefer using their black graphite as opposed to black pigment. Great looking table!

Good video, John. I've got some slabs that are drying so this is very relevant content for me! Looking forward to the next one.

I used General Finishes Seal-A-Cell and Arm-R-seal semi gloss on my live edge walnut table. Applied 6 coats, sanding with 600 grit between coats and it turned out pretty well.

John can you wax it after it cures ? To get a bit of a sheen on it ?

Very nice! Great vid, no extra fluff, and all the commercial stuff is at the end. Great job!

Love Rubio. That stuff leaves an amazing look to hardwood. Don't go to dinner and forget to wipe it off. Ask me how I know. :-(

Beautiful tabletop, John. Thanks for showing the process.

John,
The slab turned out wonderful! I follow you on many social media platforms and see that you use rubio monocoat frequently. I'm wanting to build a dining table myself and was wondering how well the finish protects from water and other spills. Would you recommend using a different product? Thanks!

Dude that's an amazing table! Super jealous. I like to use a medium Danish oil for color and a hand rubbed gel poly on my slabs. Thia video has inspired me to try out the finish you recommend

A product to consider to help with “out gassing” from the wood and for keeping grain from raising is Benite.
