In this video I demonstrate all the steps required in applying a wax / oil finish to a solid walnut cookie coffee table. The brand of wax/oil I am using is called Odie's oil which is an all natural finish and smells great.

Nice video! I used Odie's oil on a figured walnut live edge coffee table about 9 months ago. We love it. I sanded to 800 grit with Festool Rotex 150 and followed the manufacturer's instructions. No sanding in between. I look back at my film finish furniture and it just doesn't attract the hand like the odie's oil solution. At first I didn't like Odie's oil, as I used too much and it was a nightmare to recover, but I'm all in now. We don't use coaster either, unless it's a super wet drink. Great finish.

Thanks for the video. I'm doing a similar project soon with a Claro walnut cookie like yours. I'm concerned that because it is all endgrain, the oil might darken it too much and I would lose the character of the burl-y grain and all that. Sometimes it's hard to tell on video - did your piece darken a lot?

Hi there! Anyway you could link the buffing pads you used?? I really like the method used!
Also, how has the finish held up since applying it? Can it take normal use? (Placing cups and glasses or small indoor plants on it) or should you just go with poly at that point?

Four years ago you posted this. I must ask, if you are still around.
How has the finish held up? Is it scratch resistant?
I have a walnut cookie slab that looks very similar that I'm looking to finish with Odie's Oil. I have four daughters and I'm skeptical on whether I should go with epoxy or if I can stay with the Odie's.

Hi. Was the top of this slab stained before odies was put on? It looks like it was, and the sides were not. Thanks for any info.

What kind of stain did you use before putting the oil, and how many steps did you use to get to 400 and 800 grit?

Hey bubba odies oil is great but your doing it wrong you should spread the surface evenly then let sit for 10-30 minutes then buff of extra by hand then power buff and you are pushing way way way to hard on that power buffer for it to work your doing nothing with it pushing that hard it has to spin freely to do its job and turn it up a little just trying to help

Looks a lot like redbud, but I don’t think it gets that big
