INFJ Mistypes: Everyone is an INFJ

MBTI mistypes are common. It seems like a lot of people test as INFJ these days. Many types have external behaviors that can be similar to INFJs, such as Fe (Extroverted Feeling) users (like ESFJ or ISFJ), or Fi (Introverted Feeling) users, who have strong morals and empathetic traits (like ISFP or INFP).

INFJs, ESFJs, ISFJs and ENFJs all use:
Fe (Extroverted Feeling) and
Ti (Introverted Thinking),
and so they may share common values and behaviors. However, their dominant functions differ.

Are INFJs put on a pedestal? There are some drawbacks to being an INFJ...

I'm an INFJ first typed in 1977 when I was a teenager and have consistently been typed INFJ ever since. Intuition is our primary function and that is hard to fake. Empathy is not sympathy; it's simply having an accurate assessment of another's feeling state. That, too is hard to fake.

The mistyped as an INFJ phenomenon shows up in comments sections a lot. I suppose people want to believe they have rare personalities and, not being genuine INFJs, have no idea about the weighty aspects of this personality type.

I can see the Introverted Intuition in one of my family member's that's an ISFP. But she definitely doesn't have the INFJ vibe. I think it's pretty easy to figure out when someone isn't an INFJ. Figuring out when someone IS an INFJ is the challenge. 😁 ~ ENFJ

The system was created for self improvement, not as labels for rarity or relation to other famous people. That's the case due to misinformation, from stereotyping, which can stem from surface level understanding. I think its quite prevalent that those who start out, to mainly go of descriptions which are universal to eveyone. (Barnum Effect) Which a lot of the times come from the source which they got there type from, thus labelled trustworthy due to understanding them. Various tests and forums, using dichotomous and traits instead of theory, but I think there is more to that.

I don't blame them, since the way information is dispersed has to appeal to a larger audience, such as the 16p website as the first result which shows when searching the mbti or 16personalities. The actual theory could be a bit hefty thus not many people search for it, and various other definitions etc. But it could do with introspection, not many people can type themselves accurately. For a spectrum of reasons. For example, if they were to ask questions to others pertaining to their type or description of themselves, it could lead unto biased questions or an untrusty description about oneself. Real time video calling with a certified mbti practitioner is a good option, but many others don't want to spend money on such. Which I do not blame them. There are various communities to join, for like minded people, but some of previous problems could arise when it comes to typing.

Some may be aware of there type but don't want to even labelled as such. Due to a "negative stigma" arising from biases. I think we just need more guidance for those who are new or have been here. There are plenty of channels covering this, but it should be more mainstream to get a wider audience.

Everyone needs to read up on MBTI and figure out their type that way! There are some good tests out there, but 16personalities isn't one of them.

As a female INTJ, the struggle of people telling you "you have emotions! You are an F!" is real.
People, INFJs have Fe. They connect with other's emotions.
INTJs have Fi. My emotions are mine. Thought on the other hand... my Te wants to get with your ideas.

My brother is an ENFP and he will meet someone and will try to guess their myer-briggs type right off the bat before he knows them for a long time (usually) and I have to remind him that it is more complicated than he is making it out to be. It especially annoyed me when he thought certain people were INFJs, people who could not have been more different than an INFJ. It is also my experience that many many introverted or quiet people that he meets that he doesn't know very well guesses that they are an INFJ. There are two people we know who COULD very well be INFJs (out of all the incorrect quesses) but still, neither of us know these people very well. While all this goes on, people who hear the assumptions about typing people, they get the idea that Myer-Briggs is not a trustworthy or even good system, and many of my friends now dislike it. This makes me shy away from using the system publicly because of embarressment at how much of a bad reputation it has to people I know. Still if I introduce it to a new friend or they talk about it, they have so many misunderstandings about the system that I want to explain, but there is a lot to unpack. Now I just don't talk about Myer-Briggs very much and wonder why I care about being so accurate about a system of theory (even though it is a good one).

I××Ps can (probably majority of times) never mistype themselves cause they got Di (introvert decider i.e., thinking introverted or feeling introverted) they're the most self aware types!
