We all have seen a lot of birds sitting on the electric wires several times, but still, they never get an electric shock. This is because they land on a single wire at a time. But, if even a single body part of this bird touched the other wire, the game will get over.
See, the electric current is nothing but the flow of these electrons from the high potential to low potential. A very interesting characteristic of the electric current is that it always chooses the shortest path to travel. When a bird sits on an electric wire, its feet stay at almost the same electric potential.
So the current decides to deny the longer path, i.e., the bird, and chooses the shortest path, which is this electric wire, to travel.
But if the bird accidentally touched any of its body parts to any other low electric potential wire, the electric current will now go for the shortcut and start traveling to the other wire through this bird, and in the end, this bird will not get even a second to move away.
