The Banished also gave it a most detailed breakdown.

The amount of sheer effort that goes into this must be insane.

The books said it well “humanity is innovative, the Covenant is imitative”
The Covenant just took Forerunner technology and imitated it. We took Forerunner and Covenant tech, mixed it with our own and made it better.

Came for the ship, stayed for the metallurgy lesson.

I just thought of something. Given how long this video is; If one were to walk at around 2.5mph/4kph while listening to this, one could walk from the bow to the stern of the UNSC Infinity than an additional 2.5-ishkm/1.5-ishmi back in the other direction.

I was not expecting a deep dive into metallurgy / materials science. As someone who majored in this subject, this was really well done. Awesome work man.

I like the idea of The Archive. Imagine covering the nuts and bolts of a US naval vessel, talking about the Phalanx CWIS for the 23rd time. ALL of them have it!

I remember having an argument with someone and they were arguing that somehow the Death Star could literally outrun a MAC round from a fleet of UNSC ships. He was quoting ridiculous speeds which might be true.

But then I just retort “well then explain if it was at the speed of light?” And explained the Infinity.

Yeah Star Wars is a space opera, not a military sci-fi.

Mother of God, I am going to have to watch this over the course of a couple lunch breaks! But it'll be worth it!

Man I love catching a buzz and then learning about Halo from your in-depth videos

Considering how the Infinity apparently lasted only 4 minutes against the Banished, It makes me wonder just how large of a scale of an attack Atriox pulled when he engaged the UNSC forces at the battle of Zeta Halo.

21:31 single-crystal forging is a real process. It is used to make turbine blades in jet engines.

Such a beautiful and grand ship. One of the best things to come from the 343 games in my opinion. The books are way better though.

After reading some of the books and learning the lore, q lot of people say it ruins the eerieness and mystery. For me, it adds a new sickening layer of eerieness and new mysteries. Mostly I wonder the old structures of the foruneers and think: "AM I standing in the last place a forerunner stood? What were the forerunners here thinking of when the rings activated? Were they thinking about their lives with regret or pride?" And so on.

As for the Infinity, I love many of the mysteries behind how they reverse engineered forerunner and covenant tech to build such a massive and powerful ship. It makes me wonder if the war would have continued, would humanity have built more of these ships while they hunt the remaining Civenant and recolonize space? So many question! I can't wait to learn more!

Man it felt so weird seeing the manufacturing process of titanium alloy, around the time this video was published I did a giant essay explaining how TI64 (one of the most common and useful titanium alloys) is made, it's structure, quemical, mechanical and electrical properties, applications, alternatives of manufacturing and all that, I wish I had seen this video at the time, many of the questions I had during this investigation where explained perfectly here xD absolutely brilliant video

Did you know that metallurgists are working on a titanium cross section that would be formed similar to plywood? The strength of the metal is longitudinal. ie along the long axis of the metal as it was formed. with the metal in flux at a temperature that I do not know the metal is cross layered. This gives the metal a very strong structure on multiple axis. I would assume that in 2550 that the game is set in this process, or its like, has been improved to the point where more than the current two axis can be processed at a time. The armor would then be able to withstand hits from energy and concussive weapons even at the level of the Covenant. Then as the technology and metallurgy continues to improve the metal would be quicker to manufacture giving the UNSC the ability to put the armor on ships of the size of the Infinity fast. Otherwise the build time would be measured in decades.
