In this week’s video, I show you how I set up a table saw to rip thin strips of wood. This is a combination of using a very simple jig, some woodworking technique, and parts that you probably already have for your table saw. The only additional piece of gear you need is a simple, flat, feather board to instal on the track for your table saw fence.
This is the only method I have found that allows you to rip narrow pieces of wood into precise, thin, strips. This is a perfect method for fine trim and scale models.

Hello Friends! I've seen many, many ways to cut thin strips and I have tried most of them. This video combines techniques and a simple jig to do it in the safest way I know how. As a bonus, this set-up does not require you to keep moving your table saw fence and it doesn't require you to get your hands any where near the blade. Enjoy!

I could say: one more jig for cutting thin strip, but that one is different in the way safety is pretty good, and easy to do.
So, I consider this method as number one!

Great idea and although not really necessary a second feather board on the outside feed of the blade would make it even better. And if a feather board is not available you can use a thin block of wood clamped to the fence which would serve the same purpose. Great video and very informative.

Great video. Thin strips are such a pain to cut and I can’t wait to try this method. Thanks Eric.

Great set up! I wish my fence had a groove :(

I need 1/4 inch thick, one inch wide, 8 foot strips from hardboard. To make spline. Would this work on something that long?

Thanks, Eric, this is a good cost-effective way to make thin strips, IF your fence has that groove in it (mine doesn't). BTW, was that a black widow spider at 8:28?
