I had never written a line of code before the age of 53. I was made redundant at this age and thanks to some soul searching and some inspiration from the likes of Stef I took a chance in a coding bootcamp. Now two years down the line I’m a fully employed, busy, front end developer. So, if you are in doubt, don’t be, it can be done but you have to really, really want it.

I started at 49, half way through a degree....just do it. Dont forget those life skills you have at 50! Communication, working in a team etc

Google Masako Wakamiya... she learned to code at age of 81 and created an innovative app

If there's one take away, it is hope.

Uncle Stef has a calm, reasonable outlook and he is making life a lot better

Xgens - problem solving skills. Multifaceted.
Perfect users and implementers of AI tools with even just a bit of coding, data, and api experience. Exciting times!

There’s no age limit on learning. Coding is all about retaining knowledge. As long as you grind and actually perfect your craft, you can compete with anyone.

Starting to code at 50+ implies that the person had never been interested to try it previously, despite the barriers to entry being near zero (all you need is a computer and an internet connection).

Great vid. Did you ever make a vid on a roadmap for people 50+ to get something PT in 6 months? That would be great not only for older devs but pretty much anyone. On another vid you said basic frontend, HTML, CSS, JS, maybe PHP/Ruby. Would you still recommend that?

Sounds really interesting. But there are many programmers who are struggling to get a job. Maybe the number of jobs available are less than the number of programmers applying for job out there?

What are your opinions of generative AI models affecting the landscape?

Hey stef, thank you for your videos. I am 32 and i want to go into the software development industry.I took my cs development degree, working on some projects for my CV. Because i leave far away from the capital i want to work remotely or as a freelancer.

But i hear rumors about that ChatGPT will eclipse all junior developers especialy those who are entry. This gap will be covered of employees demand because the mid and seniors will be much more productive. What is your opinion about that?

I live with that anxiety and fear the last few months because i gambled my time on that direction.

Okay, so that's fine for you young guns, but how's about some love and advise for those who may be pushing 6-0?

Learn to code at 50? Sure. But getting a job and securing a stable retirement depends on a lot of factors which you don't mention. *Anything* is possible, but the reality is that for most people it's **much** more difficult at 50 than at a younger age. And for some it's *practically* impossible.

I'd love to prove my point, or be proven wrong, but it'll apparently cost me $1000. Well... I'm 50 and unemployed with no savings. Although I do have significant coding skill and experience, I have no job opportunities right now.

__Coding Is Super _*_*Low*_*_ Demand__ right now compared to just a few years ago. Of course you claim otherwise! You have a Premium Developer Mentoring Program to sell!

at 50, seriously ! least you can die in peace ;) just kidding. As uncle Stef just said, 50 is just as good as any younger age... key is to have passion for stuff (steff) and you got it already. happy coding 50s

People making big money on coding are not the average coder and I guess after 50 it is extremely difficult to compete with a hungry newbie or a seasoned developer. Of course it also depends on the half-old-fart coder background. Not impossible but in my opinion not easy at all.
