Power Mac G4 restoration and upgrade - part 1
Показать описание
In this video series I will upgrade and restore a Powermac G4 Sawtooth.
*I wont take any responsibility if you try anything in this video, the risk is yours to take and deal with the consequences.*
Here are some useful links if you do want to do some of the mods.
PSU mod.
*Update 2024-09-09*
*I'm fairly sure this PSU mod is actually incorrect.*
*I used this mod for my Sawtooth adapter and it "works" but I dont think it works they way the author on atxg4 intended.*
*Swapping pin 8 (POK = Power OK) and one of the 3.3V lines makes no sens because all 3.3V pins are connected on the motherboard side already.*
*Also the PSU sends a logical 5V on POK 8 pin, its not the motherboard sending the signal.*
*Because its a logical signal (high impedance) the current should be limited to max a a few mA*
*When 5V POK is pulled to 3.3V there is about a 1.6mA current between POK and 3.3V when I measured with two different ATX PSU's.*
*And because the Sawtooth ran fine with the adapter it ran fine without the adapter when I tested now in 2024.*
*Also any modern ATX Version 2.2 PSU (that spec is from 2004) do not have -5V so there is no -5V that can short to ground.*
*Im not sure if its bad for the PSU to have the POK line pulled from 5V to 3.3V long term even if my system years later are still working fine.*
*Removing the POK cable from the ATX connector should work I guess, have not tried it but it seems like an option*
*From my understanding reading other guides the Sawtooth has no equivalent to POK, the motherboard just waits a bit and then assumes the PSU is ready.*
*With a PC the motherboard would wait for the PSU to send the POK signal on pin 8.*
CPU overclocking, changing for multiplier and FSB.
Bootrom 4.2.8 from Apple.
SIL3112 flash guide and files.
P.S I's sorry for the crappy video and sound quality, this is my first time and I was fighting with my camera and the video editing software OpenShot that sucked, wont be using that again.
