--- Drills

#1 BH push, BH chop, FH push, FH chop

A great warm-up drill for choppers. Uses sideways movement and in/out, and the 4 main defensive strokes.

- Start by pushing ball in to control player's backhand
- Control pushes BH to BH, player pushes to BH
- Control player loops to BH, player chops to BH
- Control player pushes to FH, player pushes to FH
- Control player loops to FH, player pushes to middle/BH
- Repeat

#2 Loop vs. block, chop vs. block, loop vs. push

A great warm-up drill for choppers who also loop. Helps to develop loop against backspin and block, but also works on the very important "chop vs. block" technique, which you should expect to come up against when opponents look to stop you from attacking. Turn this into a weapon by aggressively chopping with a lot of backspin!

- Start by rolling ball to control player's backhand
- Control player blocks to FH, player loops down the line to BH
- Control player blocks to BH, player chops to BH
- Control player pushes to FH, player loops to BH
- Repeat

#3 "Surprise!" drill

This drill looks to develop a defender's ability to recognise their opponent's body language to understand when they're about to attack. Also helps to develop a defender's speed of movement away from the table.

- Either player starts by pushing anywhere
- Both players push anywhere, until the control player decides to launch a fast, explosive attack
- Play the point out

Coaching points: The control player should try to disguise their attack until as late as possible, then attack quickly. The defender should be trying to play long, aggressive, wide pushes whilst simultaneously watching their opponent's body language for signs that they're about to launch an attack. Stay up at the table until you see this sign, then move back rapidly. Maintain quality pushes.

Apologies, the sound gets distorted about half way through. Slightly out of sync. Not sure why!
