I used my STIHL MS 441 to do an overlapping snap cut to release this log piece by piece to the ground. Follow along and watch the bore cut at work!

Moustache? Luxurious.
Chain? Sharp.
Tree? Didn't stand a chance.

This is at least the third time I've watched this video and I'm still struggling with step one. I'm only 53 years old though so I'm hoping someday I'll be able to move past the hair growth and cut a tree.

This was great! I'm currently doing my cross cut chainsaw training for SES, and have been researching all the cuts with video reference. I have previous experience already but we learn new things everyday. Bore cuts I hadn't done before, and I have my assessment on the 4th August. This was super helpful to see how a bore cut can be used! And I definitely will be using this method on one of the trees I'm required to be cutting! Thankyou!

Perfect I'm working on a big oak in the same position and kept picking the saw because I'm a newbie ❤

Always double check the stache for structural integrity. Saves lives.

I usually notch in the top and cut up from the bottom. But look the tree over very carefully to see how the tension is. Sometimes they could jump to the side so stand on the opposite side,

That's a cool technique. Really decent stache too.

If it's going to be trash anyways you can make a hinge cut on the compression side

Wedges work nice to release in situations like that...no running saw in your hands..do your bypass cut and stuff a wedge in...baff!😂

I cut from top down, drive an axe in from top from opposite side then line the cut up cut from bottom up taking all precautions, Aussie hardwoods

I have 2 questions. After the first cut on the top (the compression side), you then make the 2nd cut a bore cut to the left of the top cut, and cut downward all the way thru the tree. Q1: Does it matter which side of the initial top cut that you do the bore cut - left or right? Q2: After you made the bore cut downward thru the tree, you then finished by cutting upward until the tree falls. Could you just as well have made the 2nd cut upward from the bottom of the tree instead of starting with a bore cut and then finishing with the upward cut?

Delayed wood release
Highly preferred over early wood release
Mustache optional

Mustache give you a better ‘handlebar’ on tree trunk bucking?

I was learning how to use a chainsaw and read that you shouldn't use the top to cut. Is that not true? Because it would make things so much easier if I can use the top too
