Visually the remake is better but I kinda wished they kept the original sounds and screams of the wendigo

They were SO AHEAD of their time with the first one, graphics were great, story was good, creature design was terrifying asf, the whole atmosphere made the game super immersive. I was terrified as a teen playing this game.

What’s crazy is I remember until dawn the OG being insane graphics for when it came out too, the fact this looks even better blows my nostalgia away

New version looks gorgeous but i wish they would've keep the brighter blues of the old games makes everything feel more cold

The reason why they are always screaming because to startled their pray so they can hear them moving.

The updated graphics are objectively higher fidelity but they increased the contrast WAY to much and put a blue filter over everything undermining their work leaving it feeling less real than the og

I kinda like the new scream a bit but the old one was nails on a chalkboard. Like demonic screeching and that sent epic chills down my and anyone else's spine. It was so scary!

This one toned down their screams a bit so they're not that scary ig? Weird tbh

Don’t know which is which but the top definetly feels scarier.

I love the ambiance for the remake more, but I liked the texture of the Wendigos better in the original. The more "fresh" and human looking skin made them feel scarier for me because it reminded me that they were once human

Admit it, every time it appears "don't move" the nose begins to itch.

Kinda prefer the old wendigo look. The eyes glisten like moonstones😂

I love that shot of him by the door, the new version adds vastness to the room and makes him seem more alone. I wish they kept the colder tone of blues for the new one, it always felt colder, like you could feel the chill where they were.

Honestly, the wendigo looked and sounded better in the original, Like obviously its graphically better in the remake, but I think its unnatural and almost unfittingly pasty white body was so much better than scratched up, dirty, ashy grey

Kinda shocking to think that the original game had graphics people were super impressed with for the time, but now that I’m looking at it I’m shocked it was ever good. Insane how graphics quality changes over time.

Ngl the remake obviously looks better, but the whole reason for me at least was that the wendigo had a blurred, dreamy like lense to its appearance. That and the soundboard are what sold me on the monster.

Sometimes not being able to fully understand/see a monster is the reason it's scarier than one you can see in full detail.

Edit: For those that keep posting that I'm missing the point of a remake, let collectivly get your minds outa the gutter and consitter something for a moment: why were old horror movies so terrifying? Friday the 13th, aliens, night of the living dead, Halloween, eta. What's one thing all of these have in common? Lighting and atmosphere. The Era they were in, cgi and effects wasn't something you could use a cruch to hide mistakes in makeup, rubber suits, and prosthetics, or janky mechine puppets, but lighting and atmosphere was the easiest way to hide these things while also cranking up the fear factor.

Another point, specifically the alien franchise, is how they conduct their games. Aliens hoard running you in colonial marines is far less terrifying then the 1 single one hunting you in the dark, out of sight, and never letting you catch your breath in Isolation.

So yeah, having your monsters detailed up the wazoo is cool and all, but without the unknown affecting it through light and shadow it might as well have a neon sign saying "here's my weak spots, plz pay attention to them." It just completly breaks the immersion for me, every time.

Why do these big corporations keep remastering games that don't f*cking need a remaster
