Slow Cars Fast: Why Would I Ditch The Supercars for 200HP?!?!

Lately I have been gravitating towards the GT 86 on so many of the laps that I’m driving for fun. I’ve shed a little bit of light into this here in this video. Let me know if you’d like me to go into more detail on the difference is a fast cars versus slow cars on the Nürburgring.

It would be nice to see the footwork when you drive a manual on the ring! Good driver!

and THIS is what I love about my clio... Lap after lap after lap... once the tire pressure is set I´m ready for 5-6 laps in a row or even more. not pushing too hard though. and you can just change parts every four weeks like discs and tyres and it doesn´t get too expensive. my lack of money made me writing this :D

yeah it's much more fun to drive a slow car fast and trying to extract as much speed as possible in the corners.
I also love that you can drive full throttle most of the time.
I recently bought an E36 318is. I just upgraded the swing bars, changed brakes and tires. The sad part is that my lotus is not that much faster in the corners.

Hi Robert, have you had a chance to drive a 2019 Mazda MX-5 (ND2) with the updated 181hp engine? It seems to be a contentious topic about whether that car or a GT86 is a better 'slow-car-fast' RWD car. I guess it depends on how much you value a car's torsional rigidity... Thanks in advance!

This video makes me even more satisfied with the decision to pick up a 2018 BRZ last year :P
It's a TON of fun on windy roads in the countryside.

I really like your camera setup, front shows all of the track in perfect light conditions. Usually it's cockpit camera with overexposed windows.

There´s something in just how that car "eats" the track away - how the car is able to carry speed while being so relaxed, and still very sharp. I like that car.

8:02 lovely gearchange haha.
Love the GT86!
Could be one of the best entry level track cars that you can also daily. Modern, affordable and heaps of mods available.

Hey Robert!
I wonder if the new MX-5 with 184 might end up as a rental for APEX. Seems to follow the same concept of the gt86, but with less weight. Have you guys consider it, and did you got the opportunity to try it out? I would absolutely love to experience a roof-less experience in the Nordschleife, I believe it makes the track even more incredible to experience!
Thank you for the videos!

Great video. I think this was the first one I have seen, that actually gives a sense of the elevation changes on the track.

cool vid. Was probably me, but all of a sudden, I started seeing when the track was going up and down. Funny, I've probably seen 100+ vid's of laps of the Ring (that's how I found Apex and you all), and still not before this video I really started seeing this.

I can imagine a car with 200hp also being more fun because it's easier to nail all those apexes instead of getting the kick out of hard-driving and thus missing some apexes (unless you are a very good driver of course so this more counts for people like me :D )

Love these videos! Takes a proper driver to drive a slow car fast, it's certainly a lot easier to drive a fast car slow. Many smiles per gallon to be had in them too.

Favorite series. Immediately. By default. More of this.

You should get the Subaru version because it’s a Subaru. Also there are a lot of Subaru fan boys. You used to have a Russian guy at Apex who was a huge Subaru fan boy. He works for some Crapitalist car company now.

A little chat at the start and then just the road and car, lovely stuff.

I remember going from my first car with 98hp to my second car with 200hp. Went to attack on of my favorite on ramps and it quickly(har har) became apparent that flooring it through the corner was just not going to work in the new car. Big fan of these videos that focus on dynamics of vehicles. Already subbed on the Supra bump steer vid though lol..

GREAT CONTENT Robert !!
Please list the modifications to GT86
DIG your points of " Usable Performance " over extended track lap runs
The fact that PSI didn't change over those many laps, confirms that will a well set up and driven car, you can have a BLAST in car like the GT86 vs the very narrow operating windows for HYPER Cars
GOOD FUN !😎🏁

Happy to see someone else repping the 86 on the nordschleife :) 86 lovers unite!
On a serious note, mine is also my daily. I was a hardcore AD08R user, tried the new RS but it's crap to be honest. Looking at options that still deal well with the wet, and other variations of Eifel weather. Was thinking about the NS2R since the AR1 would be too track-focused... Any thoughts or suggestions? Cheers!
