Paint over stained wood trim with as little sanding as possible while still getting a long-lasting finish that is smooth and streak free. Find out how you can paint over wood varnish the right way without spending too much time sanding. We will also paint glaze our trim and seal it with a clear coat.

Ofcourse you will need a stain blocking primer and good trim, cabinet paint from your local store. Note that sanding is optional but I strongly recommend going over lightly with a sanding block, sanding will always make the paint grab better than not sanding. Thanks again for watching and leave a comment.

Just to update: I've begun the transformation of my whole house, painting over the dark wood trims, doors, cabinets, etc. I'm using your video with amazing instructions! My first go was a pantry door (I removed slats and added fabric, also). Thank you so much!

I have so much dark, varnished wood in my house (trim, doors, set-in bookcase, fireplace, staircase) and have wanted to change it. I'm totally confident I can do it! Thank you so much for this video.

This is just what I needed to learn. I’ve got a finished basement with polyeurothaned beadboard on the walls that I want to paint. I was thinking I’d have to tear it down but I’ll go this route instead.

There are some excellent testing videos that show conclusively there is literally no benefit to sanding when using high-end primers such as SW Extreme Bond or Behr Bonding Primer. over varnished wood. Conclusive enough that I have stopped sanding the ubiquitous varnished wood in my home, and switched up from the cheap box-store primers.

Great job, amazing kitchen, I have a stained fiberglass front door that’s lost some of the stain and urethane, so, I’ll try my best not to make it worse.LOL.
