This is the best and easiest way to paint over water damaged ceilings. Guaranteed to block the stain and prevent it from bleeding through your fresh final coat of paint. Many people try to paint directly over a stain hoping that it will block or cover the stain and most unfortunately fail. Even if you applied 5-10 coats of paint some stains will simply continue to bleed through ruining your finish. This can be applied to both walls and ceiling. The product is a four in one primer, undercoat, stain blocker and sealer and depending on where you are using this product and what you are trying to cover you will have 3 options to choose from. The product is ZINSSER 1.2.3, B.I.N and cover stain. Although any one of these 3 products will be able to take care of the issue, they each have their individual strengths over another. That looks like just the product I need!
However, for a small (say 5 cm) wide water stain on a large ceiling, can you get away with painting just the impacted area, or do you need to paint the entire ceiling?

I found if your in an older house with hardwood the dark brown tannins come through onto the ceiling with a water leak. Go the Yellow Oil based Zinsser with 2 coats m then 2 coats of ceiling paint for these dark stains, works a treat!
