Minecraft accidentally adding an interesting, fun and balanced feature for the technical side of the community every single snapshot, only to patch it out as a "bug fix" and never revisit the concept

Hey this is entirely unfair!

There are like 3 other guys with entirely different goals, a mega corporation that wants to milk the game as dry as possible, and a fan base that will throw massive tantrums over literally anything that is added to the game.

I think the problem is that they're all right in a way. The game has an audience with a lot of children, and microsoft doesn't want ANY kind of bad rep connected to children killing animals. There's survival players who want more stuff which is fun to do in survival, like structures or hostile mobs. And there's the people who want to industrialize their farms and automate stuff (intersectibg with the survival players) and want more features relating to that. Microsoft is trying to keep the game a sandbox and adds all this plus new building blocks all the time. The game just ends up going in all directions at the same time

The Skyrim guy has been asleep for a while until now, and the educational guy has been the dominant force.

Dont forget all three are also trying to appease both a big corporation who just wants and a whiny fanbase who has no idea how game dev works

The first guy is the reason we don’t have fireflies and baby parrots, the second guy is why there’s now a made up tree type in the game, and the third is behind diamond no longer being the best armor and tools. He’s also the reason for maces though, so he gets a pass.

I would LOVE for this game to be slaughter simulator 2024, but none of the new mobs DROP anything! At best it's a token gift with one niche use, from the axolotl onwards. No new food, few (if any) new mob drops. It's annoying.

my favourite thing is how they removed the ability to tame ocelots to create cats, citing that ocelots are an endangered species and this would make kids want to interact with wild ocelots which is both dangerous for them and disturbing for the ocelot's way of life, which is a fair thing; but then taming wolves with bones is still a-okay! No issues there kids! go out in the local forest and tame wolves with bones you get from skeletons!

All I want is a new color of wood. A new biome and grass color for that wood. A new mob. And to patch some code.

And there’s 4 people deciding how to make it so they add the worst mob to the game in the mob vote, while ensuring the ones that are actual gold are forgotten forever

It’s almost like what makes Minecraft great is that it caters to any of these playstyles. It appeals so broadly because there are so many ways to approach the game that are all fun/rewarding.
