It is very hard to get into the IBEW, look at the numbers only a small percentage of electricians are in the IBEW. Only a handful of applicants can get an apprenticeship. Its great for the very few who can get in

Does anyone know if you have to drug test immediately after applying or if that happens after your accepted into the program? I want to apply to the IBEW now but I smoked weed about a week ago before realizing the unions don't allow that (I live in WA)...

I do not recommend the IBEW apprenticeship. Here in NY, they're really training engineers for huge projects (railways, power stations, wiring up skyscrapers) not houses or apartments. They make you take a terrible 4 hour electric science class every week, plus a useless college degree in labor studies. The electric class is no good, poor instruction and 10 hours of studying a week. Worst of all, you get no college credit for it. It'll be 5 years before you can start doing a degree in electrical science. I recommend going to college first and getting a degree in electrical engineering. Then they'll let you right in.

Can a non-union Journeyman still get into the union? I had no problem getting into a Union Shop in the past but it's been many years.

Fr if you’re not tryna be a brother and a craft worker then just go somewhere else. If you don’t want to fight for a cause go somewhere else.

Has anyone gotten placement without a highschool transcript? I have a college certificate for Electrical Techniques at a recognized trade school and have been accepted to the training program. Would this pass as sufficient for placement after the program?
