Rudy is one of the best in the trade. Here's his short simple advice for new apprentices and electricians.

1. Always be on time
2. Be willing to learn

Think about that and do it don't just take it at face value. what do those tips mean to the Journeyman not to yourself? It's the journeyman or master that will tell your boss if you are good, on time, and willing to learn and in turn keep your job and get your raises. That's the key!

In the middle of of my electrical trade school, I started applying for apprentice programs on INDEED, CRAIGSLIST, and even asking my instructors. I applied for anything I can get my hands on - solar, commercial, residential, and union! My recommendation is to just start applying anywhere and have the mindset/willingness to learn. I am now working with a small residential company with 5 men for 2.5 years and enjoy the people I work with! My 2 cents… JUST APPLY!

My three rules as an electrical apprentice:
1 Be present: just show up
2 Be punctual: be on time
3 Be prepared: tool/materials/PPE ready to work

"willingness to learn and on time"
Meanwhile on indeed:
3 years exp required for an apprentice helper job for half the places near me in georgia.
I want a job but they don't seem towant me.
2year trade diploma and a cert and so far no luck.
guess ill keep marching on.
that's why i keep applying on, eventually ill find my path in the industry.

Be on time always…so you spend a good 30 minutes after start time standing by the gang box, just waiting.

Good rule to live by.

Wow, I've learned so much! I think I'm ready! I'll accept no less than $80 an hour. I'll expect a prompt call back.

Doesn’t matter how willing to learn you are when companies only interview apprentices that already have 3 years of learning under their belt

Where I live, the only way to become an apprentice is to already be one, or to be related to a business owner

I wasted 2 years doing general labour with the “promise, ” of an apprenticeship only to find out my company was using that to keep me working for poverty wages

I’ve been wanting to become an electrician but I have no knowledge on how to go about it or where to start. The area I’m in is Athens, TN but I’m not sure if there are even any places nearby that I could reach out to.

My husband is great with his hands and a fast visual learner but not great with math. He’s interested in becoming an electrician but also doesn’t want to set himself up for failure
