US Teens Nearly Get Stuck in Flash Flood on Costa Rica Trip

Heartstopping video captures the moment American teens almost got stuck in a flash flood. The friends from Florida were vacationing in Costa Rica when the thunderous currents threatened to sweep them away. A huge wall of water was coming towards them. Thankfully, they were able to escape. Now, they say they know not to challenge Mother Nature.

Life-saving tip: When the river starts to have leaves floating in it and the water starts looking less clear, get out of there immediately.

I live in PR and the amount of people that get swept away and drown in rivers here for this exact same reason is insane. You do NOT go into rivers when it’s been raining. Even if where the river is the weather is clear that day, if up on the mountains or hills that lead down to that river it’s raining or has been raining you’re not supposed to go into the river cause all that water will come rushing down at some point super fast and super strong and before you know it you’ll be swept away. It literally happens here all the time, specially during these months when it's rainy season, cause apparently people dont learn 🙄 or, in the case of tourists, don’t know. I’m glad that in this case it didn’t end up in tragedy but a lot of the times it does.

I live there and yeah, there’s been a lot of rain these days, tornado in Cartago and more raining in other provinces, to anyone wanting to travel here, just be careful coming to rivers and stuff as of right now!

Flash floods normally happen when there is a massive down poor of rain up river. So when there is a massive downpoor of rain up river stay away from the river.

I'm glad they all survived, but that didn't even look like clean water. I certainly wouldn't have joined them on that adventure if I was part of their friend group. If they wanted to swim that badly why couldn't they just do it in their hotel swimming pool?
