Tom, Derek's video guy most likely used an editing program like final cut pro, screenflow, or adobe after effects. There's tons of ways to do it but if you don't have time to add in a bunch of graphic (and it does take a lot of time) in a video then I highly recommend goig to odesk.com where you can simply pay someone. If you want to learn there are countless edit software tutorials here are YouTube.

with the entire pictures thing, its already true for youtube. when i search for a FAIL complication, and i see a picture of a cat eating a cactus, im already more inclined to watch that video, than a fail complication of a woman jumping. however, once i go to that cat eating a cactus, i never get to see that picture. so i got to believe that video was better than the other, while it could have not been.
