I have been an agent for 3 years and she is spot on. I learned early on not to take things personally otherwise it will tear you apart.

Everything you said is on the money!!! Love the ending, emotional roller coaster, this business is not made for the weak. I find that as long as your intentions are pure, and you always have your clients best interest at heart, you will be successful!

"Don't take it personally" is the best & hardest advice to take in business. People take anything & everything out on whoever's at the end of the line, but that's also the person who gets the deal.

The hardest part for me is learning the entrepreneurship side of the business. The class and the field are 2 completely things. Learning how to be a hustler is not easy for me.

I just had my first week as an agent. I showed a home of another agent in the office and even though that guy didn't submit an offer, he's a potential client down the road. I also had an appointment to show a home for another agent in the office that was out of town. The client was a NO-SHOW after we agreed on the time to meet. I saw both sides of the biz in one week and I'm sure there will be more good and bad in the future. Good video! Have thick skin and don't take anything personally.

I watched this video on my very first month as a real estate agent. This hits completely different 6 months later in the business. You're so spot on with all your points! Thank you! To all the new agents out there, please keep pushing and grinding. You're time will come!

At first I thought passing the exam was the most difficult, that actually was the easy part. I'm a new agent...well not that new anymore (1+year)....Agree with everything you just said. It was very disappointing in the beginning, it took me a while to understand not to take it personally. Motivation is needed everyday. Thank you for the video.

I feel like most of this information is what people deal with in a career, real estate or not.

I’ve been in property management for 20 years. Just got my real estate license. Everything you said applies in most areas of life. Good stuff!

Real estate investor is more my speed. Being an agent is almost like being an employee/independent contractor basically. You’re more of a boss as an investor.

I started 30 years ago... First thing you need to put through your head is NEVER, work with rentals, and or property management, and or deal directly with owners (investors) that want you also to manage their rentals, and HOA... It will burn you up quickly. Start Real Estate selling or listing properties to your family members only, and close friends. Then slowly but surely, move on to help friends of your friends... and keep a regular job. Usually, people that are in the market to buy can only see properties at night or on weekends, because they work during the day. So keep a full-time job during the day from 8-5, Monday through Friday (because you will need your weekends to show properties), and do your Real Estate in the evening during the week, and all day long on weekends...and forget about social life, until you have been on the Real Estate Job for at least 10 years. Build up a good clientele, then, only then, after you are assured of yourself and that you can perform, then go ahead and quit the 9-5 job.

I Must say that you are right about Alot i'm sure, but if anyone is like me, anything is possible. I was a waitress at hooters for 7 years, i've delt with numerous personalities that its ridiculous, but i decided to transition my experience in communication into real estate. i went on numerous interviews and just got my first job in real estate near the Austin TX Area. They are a luxury firm selling million dollar listings, never hiring unexperienced agents, but they believe in me, it was difficult to get on but i did. i'm so excited for the future. I love your videos by the way, very informative.

This can be applied to any job working with the public honestly. I worked for an airline for many years and it definitely helped me develop a thick skin! I am hoping it translates well into real estate!

Funny, I stumbled upon your video while searching for some info on real estate investing and boy, do you speak the truth!! I've been a Realtor in Southern CA for over 20 years now and I've seen MANY things in this industry! When the housing bubble/crash happened in 2006-2011, the entire industry was at a standstill...the economy was at a recession, people were losing their homes and banks were foreclosing. Unless you were listing short sales or selling foreclosed properties from the lenders' asset managers, there was absolutely no business for us agents. But I survived all of that and I'm still in this business! So yes, if you want to be in this business, you MUST have mental stamina and keep up with current economy and real estate markets.

The 2 best tips I have for new agents out there are:

1.) Knowledge is power. You, yourself, must know your contracts, it's terminology and disclosures so that you can avoid lawsuits and conflicts. Do NOT rely solely on your TC (Transaction Coordinator, ) as I have discovered that many TC's have dropped the ball or made too many serious mistakes (i.e. missing signatures that cause delays or missed deadlines.) Believe me, there have been many times when I had to bounce back the paperwork during escrow because the other agent's TC was making mistakes on the contract/addendums! You will be in control of the transaction if you know "the process" yourself. By relying on the TC too much, you are doing yourself and your client a disservice.

2.) This is a "Feast or Famine" type of business. There are months where you won't get a lead or when you finally get into escrow after long months of "holding a client's hand" and then you fall out of escrow. So when you do close that deal and get your much anticipated check, I highly suggest that you "pay yourself" 20% from your commission check and invest it or save it. I know MANY agents who blow their earnings on expensive vacations or they purchase that fancy BMW or Benz (I know many of you agents out there know this - lol, ) and then they are on a bind scrambling for their next deal/close, going in debt and barely making ends-meet.
If there is anything that I've learned from the Housing Crash of 2006-2011, is that you MUST have reserve savings/money for those times when the real estate market is slow or when the economy crashes (recession/depression.) After 20 years of being in real estate, I now saved and made a lot of money on my investments enough to purchase my own real estate investment properties. I now solely focus on doing deals with real estate investors. This gives me the luxury of being selective on which clients I want to work with without doing any farming (which, in my opinion, is too obsolete.)

Anyway, I hopes this helps, (sorry for the long novel!)

Great video, Loida!
