FYI Joe, Skylum has said that Aurora HDR is now a dead product, the HDR Merge extension has replaced it. And yes there are tools to edit the mask on the background removal tool. Click where it says "Refinement brush" to open another tab. I wish it opened automatically. But if you use portrait background AI it's the same

Thanks for the input. Definitely food for thought before investing. I already use Neo and for the most part it is a great programme. Skylum have made big strides recently but, I have to revert to Lightroom for some tweaking from time to time. I'm sure Skylum will come out with some upgrades to improve things down the road. For the present time however, I'm adopting a wait and see attitude.

As a hobbyist the subscription structure does not work, this is one of the reasons I left Lightroom. Let me pick and choose what plug-in I want with a price. I guess the subscription plan is better suited for play for profit photographers. But in that case Adobe Photoshop would be the better choice.

Topaz and DxO are still king when it comes to noise and sharpening, Luminar still needs a lot of work.

Background removal has a ‘refinement brush’ which does allow corrective work to be seen and done - so I don’t think you have to work blind on selections like the elephant.

It was not a fair comparison. You should compare plugins, that is, the Luminar plugin against the Topaz Denoise AI plugin, so there is not much difference in price.
One disadvantage of Luminar is that apparently it does not allow you to use other companies' plugins, but only their own. 🤔
Companies like On1 Photo Raw include these functions in their editing programs so you don't need to buy a plugin, although you can buy this functions separately as a plugin for other programs.

to me the only extension i found value in was super sharp AI the facial enhance comes in handy when working with those old family photoes i already have topaz gigapixel AI so my expectations for upscale AI was high. to be honest the upscale AI is more comparable to the "super resolution" feature in pixelmator pro. i havent tried any of the other extensions

I left adobe the minute they went to subscription based. I use On1 photo raw, affinity photo and a couple others that i own not rent.

Skylum's decision not to grant a free license for licenses already owned, in my case Aurora HDR holding me back from buying anything else from the company, Topzlab gave me Photo AI for owning three of their products, thats the way treating costumers

There is a great stacker called Zerene. Cheap as chips and works great! is there a limit to the number of images you can stack in Luminar?

Unfortunately, when you cancel your subscription, you also lose all access to the extensions. This is confirmed by Skylum.
