1974 summer, my first true love girl was moving away for 6 months...she came back and broke up with me. It devastated me for years, and 45 years later still makes me sad. They say you never forget your first true love...I’m here to tell you I’m proof of that. I met her this spring of 2020, and tho she looked great, I married the second love of my life and was better for it. This song brings me back to 1974 like it was yesterday in her yard hanging on a hammock together. I’m listening right now and I’m 18 again!

I always tried to share the love of my life. Not to box him in. I was with him most of 24 years. We married a year and three months before he died. I was his last of 3 wives. Our love was rare. This morning I feel that he sent me the message, that he always loved me. I now live in the house we built.. but now it feels empty without him, and i wish we had more time…😢 Thank you Bread for this gorgeous song. ❤

David Gates was truly underrated! Unbelievable arrangements, spectacular lyrics, solid vocals....gosh I miss his stuff! I read that he's living on a ranch in Oregon, still married, led a happy meaningful life...and I'm happy for him. Wonder if he still plays.

I met the one. For 13 years we were together, last few years it just wasn't working out no matter what we tried we just couldnt move forward together anymore. It's painful, my heart is broken and I miss being us and all that we did and had hoped to do. I hear that life clock ticking all the time and wonder will we ever get back or perhaps God has another plan and will meet someone else just as special. Bread's first album is actually my favorite of the bunch. It only had one hit (this song) but the album itself turned out to be real pleasant, sounding like a little bit of Pet Sounds Beach Boys mixed with 1968 Beatles.
