Scale, leaning out of the pot, unstable, dried out roots.... you name it, here we go again, but I am going to stay stubborn in this case, for... reasons! 😅 as explained in this video. The definition of insanity comes to mind... thank you Einstein!

If she’s as stubborn as I, then we’ll get along, I love it. That is a wall quote. Your a fun, lovely lady. Stay strong and I am rooting for Bubba.

🦒👏🧄🐾!!! I agree to have the orchids that do well in your set up. And the environment making all the differance. No matter all the issues with make ups I came to the conclusion that Phals like it warmer in winter than we can provide. They come from warmer areas than ours all year round. I know they need that drop in temperature to bloom but not during 3 to 4 months. Our winter is long and cold and if you give them to chose they would rather go live in a warmed up house to be toasty as they like it 🤣. Warm and humid environment during winter, humm!!! When not possible they will have to adapt... patience, patience 😏
What makes me frustrated is still not understanding why they discard leaves so promptly with no going back from the moment they show the signs🙄.
Anyway those Phals will have to get on track, fingers crossed 🤞🤞🍀.
And a wonderful day to you Rafiki, with huggs from me 😍🤗🤗

Lol, I'm here right to the end listening to what you were saying about being a stubborn Capricorn. Well from one stubborn Capricorn to another I understand. Have a great night.

Lol. I'm on my 3rd phal. schilleriana. Why is it that the ones we love want to be fussy for us 😁🌺🌿

Great video Nina I love growing phals. We I live they are pretty easy to grow. I’m over here so happy bc I made a offer on a house that I looked at today and I got it. 😀

Hey Nina
I've been struggling with phals and leca as well to the point that I did end up putting them in shagnum or synthic in the end (in which usually everything ends up rotting in my environment), which made me realize that the issue really was wicking efficiency of the media in front of low general humidity
Phals roots while needing lots of air are also really thirsty, especially in dryish environements, and in such cases, either leca does not wick water enough, either pulls water from the roots at the top layer level (which is obvious when the new roots are fine until they get close to the leca and then suddenly the tip dries out).
Obviously it's a case of finding what to mix with so it works with the environment (here eifel pumice works well, but not italian one which tends to dry everything more), and a top layer of gravel is a must in order to keep emerging roots growing.

In a way I respect you very much. I do exactly the opposite, I try to please each species according to their needs. Really a big job!

If I have struggling Phal, I always remove a the yellow tough remains of old leaves. A struggling Phal has trouble getting new roots through that tough fibrous tissue. I even remove a few green leaves if I feel they could block new roots. One of my rootless Phals I removed 4 green leaves which was half of her leaves 😬 well, she now has beautiful chunky roots so it was worth the sacrifice!
It’s so frustrating when you know you are doing all you can and they just don’t respond 🥺
Or in my case.... my violacea cross, my favorite, I think I’m loosing her suddenly and with no clear explanation 😭 that will be a sad day for me
Looks like you can breathe easier with Ninja. She looks pretty good!!! 👍🏻

Hi Nina! I am using so called 'Orchi-Sticks', they are made out of plastic material and dont mold, break or get other bad stuff even when they are 24/7 in water. You can cut them in multiple pieces as well. I order them at 'Roellke Orchideen' webshop from Germany, they are not expensive at all and I can disinfect/bleach them after use. In case you are searching for a good alternative for your stakeing method. :)

Hi Nina, I did the same thing when I started growing. I kept a phalaenopsis in lecca. She just lived. Maintained. I finally decided to put her back in bark and she went nuts! Ariel roots! Tripled in size! 2 bloom spikes! She is now thriving! Not just maintaining. I wish you luck. Hope the pull through for ya.

Very interesting 🧐. I really can’t say you should do this or that. I pot my orchids according to their needs. Mostly bark. My high humidity lover’s I am growing in a fish tank where I try to keep the humidity around 80%. I tried growing Dendrobium and Cattleya in once and they did not do well. But my growing conditions are totally different than yours. I meant to say Lyca. I hope your Phalaenopsis prosper. 🤗🥀🌴

I have been growing my phal hybrids in leca for a few years now & they seem to be doing well. I top my leca with flat glass beads to keep the moisture in the pot longer & I don't seem to have as much root dessication now as they try to make their way into the pot. Hope yours improve now.🤞

Hi Nina! Have you tried MSU fertilizer? I started using that with some Cal Mag about a year ago and OMG, explosion of roots and new growths on all my orchids. My climate in western texas is similar to yours I think, long growing season and very hot temperatures in the spring/summer with lower humidity...Love your videos Nina ❤️❤️❤️🌱🌱
