In this video I'm repairing a Magnavox VCR-DVD Combo unit which was brought in to my shop dead.
What I discovered was a diode in the power supply had gone bad which caused the whole unit not to work.
The model number of this Magnavox VCR-DVD Combo unit is 2V457MG9A

Good seeing some more repair videos from you Dave! I need to get back to SoOre to visit you again sometime. It is weird that you had a 457 just after i had the 427 (saw your comment on my channel). I think the 457 has a built in SDTV tuner.

Do you have any video using leak seeker? I would like to buy one. But I am afraid it will not be that useful. Yet importing to Mexico 🇲🇽 is a bit expensive. I will appreciate your opinion or if you have a video when you use it... I tried to watch several videos of yours but didn’t find one using the leak seeker.
Thank you!!

Thanks for the video! To the point. Another one saved from the ever-growing scrapheap.

Dave, I’m curious if Sony and other TV makers might make replacement tuners for existing TV’s, so as to get the upcoming ATSC 3.0 signals? Maybe install the tuner from an external ATSC 3.0 tuner into the TV’s? Such a graft probably isn’t cost effective.

I have the same problem. No Power in a Magnavox MWD2206 that has the SB390. However I cannot find the part sold in the US. I found a 3amp 100 volt one. Was wondering If I could replace with that?

Do you still repair tv’s? I have an issue with my 2018 samsung QLED 75” tv. While playing a game on it, the tv went dim, and shadowy lines developed on the horizontal axis. They are transparent and seem to be more intense where lines of text are involved. They show up all up and down the screen. I pulled back off and reseated all the ribbons, minus the small ones that connect to each LED column. No luck. There are 3 boards. The main board, the power supply board, and another one that has ribbons labeled “driver” and a number corresponding. I was told that this tv might not even have a t-con board, so not sure what the driver board is. Anyway, im hoping this isnt a display issue. Any advice?

Hey, I've got a sylvania vcr that constantly reads as tape in. The IR led is working. The two censors off to the sides are reading a voltage drop but the unit is still reading tape in. And powers down. Any thoughts? Thank you!

I did a similar repair to an hf linear amp the other day. Blowing fuses left right and center. It was the reverse polarity protection diode.

Would like to be able to find a vcr repair somewhere. Are you still fixing others? How do I send it in?

I have the same machine. After 10 seconds, VHS player shuts down. DVD player not reading disc and shows error. I was going to scrap it. How much would it cost to repair? I live in the Midwest?

They stopped making vhs players so this fix is actually worth a few bucks now. One more dinosaur saved.

Hi. My Magnavox plays the tape about 5 - 7 seconds then stops. What is the problem and how do I fix it? Thank you in advance for your help

What year was this unit made? Glad it was easy to work on and an easy fix to boot. I have one of these that was given to me broken. Real PITA to take apart. Power supply is integrated into the single PCB, not seperate like the unit you were working on. Appears to just be a mode switch problem. The plastic slider thingy that changes the gearing from play to fast forward, etc., was distorted because the unit locked itself into rewind. Not sure if clearing the problem and cleaning the switch will fix it. Can't bring myself to commit to the reassembly. 😆😜

A complete dead device is sometimes the easiest one if everything is analog.
