There is no one today who creates this absolutely gorgeous film music. I can only wish for myself that I one day might get the opportunity to take over where mr Goldsmith ended. But time is indeed running out for me.

A very simple melody with intriguing jazz chord voicings. Almost sounds like something Tony Bennett could've vibed on. Musically, It is both simple and complex at the same time which is a perfect metaphor for the film where nothing is ever as it appears. Such a powerful and yet delicate piece of music. Simply incredible

The trumpet player was the late great Uan Rasey (1921 – 2011). "an American musician best known for his studio work... He was first trumpet of the MGM film studios orchestra from 1949 until the early 1970s, and performed on the soundtracks of many motion pictures." He is in Heaven now.

So amazingly beautiful and haunting; it captivates your imagination and makes you think of 1930s' LA.

Never before or since has a theme more beautifully set up the mood of a film than in Jerry Goldsmith's masterpiece. Sheer genius.

This is the gold standard of film scores. To be so insync with a film that both evoke memories of the other every time.

Uan Rasey plays trumpet for Goldsmith's Chinatown love theme. The melody for the love theme created by Goldsmith is played so creatively by Rasey. His phrasing,  interpretation and the emotion he evokes from the piece is totally pure and gorgeous. What Goldsmith had in mind after calling Rasey who was on vacation - leaving a message to be in studio asap listening to the strings which had already been recorded and them playing this - incredible. Rasey mentored Arturo Sandoval among others. THE FIRST CHAIR TRUMPET!
