The Most Useful Gardening Tool? Hori Hori Knife

I've been using a hori hori knife for the past year for many different purposes and have found it to be a very useful multi-tool in the garden. I'll show you the way I've enjoyed using mine and why I like having it in my tool line up.

Finally got one of these hori hori knives, and I don’t know why I didn’t get one sooner! So many uses! I would caution you to be careful while using it, though, it’s easy to think of it as a trowel digging up weeds while using your other hand to pull the weeds you’ve dug up but forget that it has pretty sharp knife edges on each side and you can get cut before you know it.

The hori hori is my #1 garden tool by far. I use it everyday. Mine is by another manufacturer but I've had it for 5 years and there is no rust (stainless steel). Japanese garden tools are well built and very useful.

I was first motivated to get a hori hori when I had the need to divide really tough clumps of perennials...I just saw through them with the serrated edge. But then once you have the thing you realize how many other uses it has! Gets much more use in my garden than a trowel. And generally allows you to plant small plant starts with less disruption to the soil.

I used the GINZU knife sold on TV in 60s as one of 3 tools to turn my backyard into a paradise. used aluminum sewing scissors to control blackberry bushes with no gloves needed. 3rd tool was a spade. could also use GINZU knife for car repair. too many tools eat your profits n production yields
