And I thought ducks were speaking English this entire time, when in reality they were speaking Latin. When they say “quaquaquaquaqua” they just meant to say “asasasasas”.

This video qua pedagogy is excellent, I loved it and got a deeper understanding of "qua." Since you're asking, this video qua video could use some visual motion and dynamics.

Hello. I know that you did your 100 days of logic a while back, but I have a question pertaining to predicate calculus. Can I use a variable from propositional logic (not a subject but a logical statement) in predicate calculus?

That the preoccupation with *production qua
production* is still formidable, of that there can be no doubt. It has inherited
the concern once felt for equality and the poor. It is still powerfully
reinforced by the service it renders to economic security. It is still
rationalized by an elaborate and traditional, even if meretricious, theory of
consumer demand. But, for businessmen, production no longer means
secure prestige. For liberal politicians, it is no longer a certain formula for
public office. JK Galbraith, The Affluent Society

Here, does "qua" translate well as "for the sake of?"

Being qua being does not refer to something (else) that *has* being, but to being as such, in itself (as opposed to the supposed being of anything else).

This was useful. Is the large Q on the slide supposed to create an optical illusion though? That was messing with me the whole time.

Which is why "man qua man" is really not that meaningful. Humans are both rational and irrational, so claiming that rationality is essential to humans only shifts the needed proof to how to measure essential. If the argument is that survival is increased by specific kinds of cognition, then the multivariate analysis will have to be done to also account for how survival can also be increased by things like denial and superstition. As always, the "ultimate givens", that are so often assumed, are not given, but require their own explanations. Still can't get an ought from an is after all of these years.

Couldn't you just substitute "x qua x" with "x in itself" or "x as itself"?
